Veto: That is a known issue, C64 Y/C should never be directly connected to a standard S-video/"SVHS" input. AFAIK the Chroma signal level produced by VIC-II is higher than what S-video uses, you should add a resistor of 140-170 ohms or so to that line.

Various devices handle the non-standard signal level in different ways, one projector I tested had internal signal level calibration and protection for video inputs, and by auto-calibrating to the high Chroma level it messed up Luma values, making the picture very dark and lacking contrast.

thanks for the kind words. it is a real pleasure to read, especially according to the position in the compo.

like cresh said, the pic looked really bad on the big screen. the yellow parts were extremly bright. i assume that this is an s-video-issue, because there was a similar effect on my c64 using a tv-capture card. the fire and tree branches are completely alienated. it is more like watching a bad scan or graphic bugs or whatever.

Quoting Randall
@booker: i don't think your comparison is well in place - Veto is an artistic spirit, while i'm just not good at writing hits ;)

You are good on down-rating your talent and productions instead :P ;-)

i gave it a 9 at the party, got instantly charmed by its colourfulness.

As to why this art ended up #14 would be probably an interesting case study for a psychologist.

(just silently counting Drax would show up next year ;> )

This is great art. Only getting a 14th place is just stupid.

As I said to Veto after the compos I think this art is too ambitious (too good) as for party gfx release. It has too many details, it has a theme of the ghost in the fire...it's too good. It has a tremendous kixxass efect on a laptop or real C64 when you have all the time to appreciate every bit of it.

Similar happens to Randall's tunes - they don't win the msx compos and he knows exactly why they can won only internet compos, where people have time to listen over and over again.

Excellent piece, I love the tornado fire thingy. It has amazed me how low you scored at the party but hey its not all about numbers in life (unless you're an accountant). Great release - your actually first under Oxyron label :) YEAAAH :)My respects.

Great picture! Should be much higher for sure.
The problem was it looked really bad on the screen at Silesia. Bad luck! :|
Veto, it was nice to see you again. :]

The fire is superb, I love how the colours look to swirl around in it. Also like the way the silhouette of the tree hangs over it. The people don't look quite as good, but still overall nice pic and should've definitely placed a lot higher in my opinion.

Great atmosphere. It looks like something from an adventure game/mind/dream. Wow, I am highly impressed!

I really like this pic, surprised it didn't place higher - great use of singlecolour bitmap!
