to be fair large areas of checker dither will cause vertical chroma striping even in MC mode. as anyone familiar with the old koala gui can attest to. :)

yeah yeah... *adjusts his monocle after fishing it out of his Martini, I should stop getting so excited* CRT color bleeding fx... not much you can do about them apart from double pixels... especially when interlacing

"A zoom on the top of Mêlée mountain.
Many combinations of regular hires checkerboard patterns will generate some unwanted and disturbing vertical bars on real hardware.
For this reason, the blue/black 1px pattern was changed to 2px pattern.
