I can't put my eyes off the leaves... how they seem to be lurking towards the couple... also the planet's surface in the back catches me.

Quote:
in this case, Groepaz' opinion that "androids are cheesy, I don't like them"

not exactly, i just dont like it when they are used to illustrate what are human properties in the first place. its in the uncanny valley for me (and i am willing to bet: same for a lot of others). there is a reason for why commander data does NOT have certain human abilities and/or properties :)

edit: that said, one thing that divides pretty pictures from actual art for me is when it is truely disturbing for me - which quite some of joes pictures manage to do.

This is stunning! It has great depth of field. The whole picture feels like its moving, particularly the planet and its ring which looks like its bubbling. Great work!

'What' is in the title, I think. In other words, it can be expressed in 2 seconds, or maybe in a much simpler doodle. No glory in that, eh, both during the process of creation and as a result.

Uhm, i find, it is a pity, if that doesnt matter, what anyone is pixeling. i think, a pic is not only based on the technique, also the motif counts, and if the motif will touch the one, who is looking at. but, pixeling is art, and for example, i cannot say: monet is the better artist than picasso, because i more like his pictures than the one of picasso. art is also a matter of taste, and they are different. but, if anyone would look on technique and not on the motif, i think, every graphician here can stop pixeling now. but that are only my two cents, sorry.
@ joe: nice picture, me likes!

"What" is for me just as important as "how". Form (how) without content (what) is as uninteresting as content without form. Joe has both, just as the other great artists (Mermaid, PAL, Archmage, Redcrab, Veto, Jailbird etc etc.. and you Hein). It's like poetry, really. If the poet has nothing to say, but the form is beautiful, it's still a dead poem. And if the poet has a lot to say, but lack the form to express it, the meaning will be trashed.

Graphically and technically, Joe's work is victorious, this is no exception. Every time I see a new picture, I wonder 'how on earth did he do that? The details, the colours, the patterns, the technical expression'. But that's me, I'm mostly a 'how?' guy.

'What?' is irrelevant to me in this case, as with most releases on csdb anyway.

Amazing Beauty within this piece Joe, the scene has a wonderful sense of romance and aloneness at the same time. The texture of the planet is simply sublime. Only improvement I would like is a bigger canvas to display more if that planet.

i have to be honest on this one.... technique is no less great than i'd expect from joe these days. the motif however resembles that cheesy android style which was hardly tolerably even in the late 80s and it completely destroys the image for me. i'd even prefer dragons and tits over this :)
