End of Communism gave Poland possibility to bigger access to the stuff from Western. Before 1990 it was not so easy to buy C64 in Polish shops. But no, we've been buying new C64's, not used ones.

@Oswald: I suspect that's pretty much what happened. The end of Communism combined with a whole lot of people from Western Europe selling off their C64s as they upgraded to newer computers probably made the C64 a nice cheap first computer perfect for a country where everybody wanted a computer buy nobody had very much money yet.
