I think these limits were meant to limit the size of the code, and not of whatever data you need to get it to run.

the problem is not including the load address or not. program should be runnable on a plain c64, just like that: load "x",8: run. If you can do it without including the load address then its ok.

This is why I always do 1-block-intros. No doubts and much more c64ish :)

I managed to reduce this baby to 221 bytes (load addy included).

so why dont you count in gcr bits, if you insist we should take the disk size.... ? :P :)

Not that it fits in here well:
I think size of 256 bytes/1K should always be including load-address.
In this case, 2 bytes less would obviously not have caused any problem.

I agree with Oswald.
Count the bytes when the file is inside the computer, not when it's on the disk.
You could as well count the track linking bytes too, then (256 bytes + load addy don't fit in one sector, after all).

so you suggest c64 coders can use 2 bytes less, just because of the filesystem ? I dont think the filesystem should change the spoken 256 byte limit. what if it needs 1024 bytes header? mission impossible? :)

©Oswald: You don't count the dir-entry or BAM bits either on C64. A PC .com file implicitly starts at the same memory location always, so no need for a header there.

why should be the loadaddy included? you dont count in the size of fat or ntfs informations into pc 256byte intros either.

reminded me this

8x8 Scroll

but actually it was 258 bytes not 256 bytes. creator was not aware of 2 load adress bytes should be included.
