Nice comic-style picture. | User Comment Submitted by N3XU5 on 14 November 2014
Since my comeback in fall 2012 i never downvote a release here at CSDb. If i didn't like a release i didn't vote ... quite simple
But back to the main topic ...
With polish some things here and there i meant not alone the AA.
We both had a chat via facebook, where i gave you some (in my eyes) useful tips to improve your gfx. Best way is ... take a (intensive) look at other artists work ... why does he place that pixel there ... why he choose this color there ... try out different dithering techniques ... which colors best fit together for shading ... only to mention a few!
I also didn't mean to work 2-3 month on a picture! This makes no sense!
OK, i didn't have so much free time like you (job, girlfriend and other hobbies) ... but sometimes i work 4-6 weeks on one picture!
In the early 90's i did the same like you! Pixeling a lot of stuff, like logos and a few full screen pictures (especially women) and my women always look ugly or like a scarecrow ^^ ... check it out here ... Gfx-Show 2 [alternate version]
One of my favorite artist was/is Hein Holt with his gfx in Dutch Breeze! I can't say how often i watched the demo. But every time, it motivates me and i tried to improve my skills! even nowadays i try to improve my skills!
And i don't think you should leave the C64! As i said before, i like your efforts and i personally think you're an enrichment to the scene! But i have also to agree with Shine here ... don't take critics too serious! Only accept some tips and tricks and try it out! ;) | User Comment Submitted by Shine on 14 November 2014
@JSL:
I doubt that you will stop with C64 pixeling, unless you find something new which inspires you to get new impressions. You gave your hobby as much room as possible. It's hard to break this structures. | User Comment Submitted by Peacemaker on 14 November 2014
"So if I make no Improvement, in other words "stop pixeling?"" - Where did i write that? I am just saying, that i see no improvements since 12-13 years. But to go further, i can not imagine that you really like your work, compared to other peoples work. And if i were you, i would think about what can i do better to improve and enter a next level. | User Comment Submitted by JSL on 14 November 2014
Hammerfist: Thanks. And, I wrote Mist, because I am Dutch, and my English is crap. Shine: Just talking of "when" I started pixeling, and scene is scene, but I guess Amiga doesn't belong here.. And yes, I take critics too high, should relax more and don't mind the downvotes. Often got the feeling to stop with C64.. Still pixeling each weekend, will come a time I drop it all.. | User Comment Submitted by Shine on 14 November 2014
DEAR JOHAN:
I can't figure out where to start.
But you mix up alot of statements which are not necessary for your feelings about comments & vote. Example: Why you light up your amiga scene career in this comment?
I think you take critics too serious.
For me this is "only" a hobby. But i guess for you, it's much more than it's deserve. Some people like your works, some people don't. And that's how life is in most cases. :) | User Comment Submitted by Hammerfist on 14 November 2014
Well, no matter all the other comments and how much better your art could be, I rather like this one. Especially the moon, the Shine logo and the anti-aliasing on the unicorn. What I would've definitely done differently was the fog. Sorry, mist as you said. Until you said it was mist, I thought it was stone and hadn't given it a second thought. Mostly because it matches the side of the Shine logo in color. For me to catch on faster, I would've wanted to see things through the mist, like the tree or the bush, but only vaguely. And I think the logo would have looked good on a nice train or factory wall as a piece of graffiti too! | User Comment Submitted by JSL on 14 November 2014
So if I make no Improvement, in other words "stop pixeling?".. To Marc: I am jobless, I only pixel at weekends, if I would go pixel at this adress, also a C64 here, I could pixel each day and come up with too many stuff and get a burnout, it is even the pixelweekends give an amazing heap of stuff, Doublescreeners, Pictures, Logos. During the week I google around
for idea's for the weekend. You say polish up some things, I use only 1 color AA, and here in the Shine graphic there is AA around the mistcloud, the Unicorn, the logo, the trees.. You
guys hope for an 2-3 color AA, which most of the time is not possible. To Mace: I heard too often that a picture is not finished, and that I must comeback to it the other day, spend a week on polishing it up, and that some graphicians release something, when it is done in a month. When a picture is finished, I do a check what can be
better and adjust pixels, but I hardly can study each picture of mine for a week, on what can be better when there is nothing to make better. In sooo many eyes it is about "improvement" and to me it's about doing it out of love for the C64. Regarding feedback by Email I do updates to my pictures. And even, if I would comeback to a picture, each day, and look what can be better, and weeks later I would release it, then being JSL, I still get Downvotes or people commenting everything is wrong,
because my graphics suck. And what then, tell you that I spend a month on improving it, while everyone dislikes the result. I know that Jailbird or Mirage or Leon do spend heaps of time on improving the piece, but they are far better than me. In my eyes, if I poop out a picture made in 3-4 hours and get Downvotes and the picture
is crap, I even get Downvotes and the picture is crap when I improve it for a month. And Danzig or Peacemaker, in your eyes 12-13 years, in my eyes since 1991. I started pixeling on C64 in 1991, but I went to Amiga and did heaps of logos, pictures, and animations with Dpaint5aga.. I enjoyed making them, but in the end they're even not shared with for example Pouet.net and Amiga scene. I still have them on my pc, and while I wanted to upload once an Animation to Pouet, they deleted it, because they
didn't like raw animations being not executable. As for Stirf, he lost intrest in C64 for two years now, officially he sold all his C64 hardware and quit Scene. Officially ROLE would be dissolved in December, but now Holy Moses/ROLE said it shouldn't saying he would code new things. And the slides you saw from Stirf, Monsters or Zombies or FOX SE, well, there where 15 others planned, but Stirf said to stop with
C64, so they are now in hands of SOS and lateron TROPYX, and even they have no time for it. Other coders in my groups lack time too. Sofar my pretty long comment. :D | User Comment Submitted by Danzig on 14 November 2014
@peacemaker: Warriors it's more like 13 years already... | User Comment Submitted by Peacemaker on 14 November 2014
12 years now pixeling? and i see no improvements since then... -.- | User Comment Submitted by Conrad on 14 November 2014
Thumb up for the sky backdrop and the inner texture of the Shine logo. The rest is below average. I agree with Mace as well. | User Comment Submitted by Mace on 14 November 2014
I like the logo and the moon.
The rest is meh.
Every other picture someone comments that you should take more time on one picture rather than poop out one picture after another. Seems like either you're not hearing it or you just can't be bothered.
Personally, I don't mind you produce a stream of pictures, though I think for sake of acceptance, it'd help if you teamed up with Stirf more and create picture shows rather than single releases. But hey, even that has been said a few times before and yet, little progress is made in that direction :-) | User Comment Submitted by N3XU5 on 14 November 2014
looks very cartoonish ... but not bad!
i didn't know where you get all the time and motivation from, to pixel so much gfx, Johan? it isn't critic, i really like your efforts ... but sometimes i wish you would spend more time to your pictures to polish some things here and there!? | User Comment Submitted by dink on 14 November 2014 User Comment Submitted by Shine on 14 November 2014
