The latest version can be found here Super File Back-Up and Utilities V1.0 with the following changes
-Now works with 1570/1571 (single-sided disks only). Drive types can be mixed
-Bug fixed in "info line" entry (couldn't validate disks containing it with other tools, including standard DOS. "illegal track or sector") | User Comment Submitted by MADMAX on 19 March 2022
Thomas Just told me it also works in both drive modes so this is great!
Thanks Lord Crass as I was close but you beat me on the 4.1 21 sec. and now this! Have fun guys as we see a wrap with what was the best copy protection scheme! and in 86 seemed impossible! | User Comment Submitted by Count Zero on 18 March 2022 User Comment Submitted by Paladin on 18 March 2022
Per Lord Crass
"And here's the long awaited Super Fast File Copier (A.K.A. Super File Back-Up & Utilities)
This one was even more well protected than the 21 Second Backup. Quite tricky, actually. I don't have a 2-drive parallel setup, and Vice doesn't emulate an aspect of the VIA (I think) to allow the 2-drive mode to work from a G64 image of the original, so getting this part put together was the most time consuming.
As always, some interesting text from the author hidden in the protection:
HAVE FUN
HELLO (in the decrypted portion of the primary drive's protection check)
HI FOLKS! CALL VG'S DATA SHACK TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE 21 SECOND BACK-UP. IT GOTS ALSO THIS AMAZING PROTECTION. CHARLES LEBORGNE
ALLO PIRATES! VOUS NE DEVRIEZ PAS ETRE ICI, MAIS J'ESPERE QUE VOUSAVEZ EU DU PLA ISIR A Y ARRIVER. CIAO!
Translated:
Hello pirates! You shouldn't be here, but I hope you had fun getting there. Ciao!
(in the decrypted section of the secondary drive's core protection)
This version should work on a wider variety of hardware than the original, along with PAL, alternate kernal/drive ROMs (JiffyDOS and S-JiffyDOS tested), cartridges, etc. I did my best to get it working and test it (in Vice, since I don't have these) with common parallel DOS setups such as SpeedDOS and DolphinDOS2 in 1 and 2 drive setups.
This will not work with setups where the parallel cable shows up at an address other than $1801. This includes DolphinDOS3, Professional DOS, etc. It also does not work with a 1571 for the same reason, plus due to not having any idea what to do with double-sided disks.
It also has a file size limit of 255 blocks."
Thanks for this amazing crack Lord Crass. As I don't have an actual Parallel cable to test this on real hardware, it would be great if somebody out there could give this a spin and report back. |
