this is one of the main pillar of the demoscene docs :) thanx Veto! | User Comment Submitted by Brush on 1 February 2022
I just wanted to say "Thank You!" to you Veto. While coding almost every production i'm referring to this little wonder doc. It's a life saver! | User Comment Submitted by Mace on 31 May 2020
I recently coded a fader with this information.
Extremely valuable! | User Comment Submitted by algorithm on 7 December 2014 User Comment Submitted by v3to on 7 December 2014
@oswald: i guess such a fade would look a bit like a cartoon renderer morph. the arrangement of luminances will change this way so smooth shades turn edged. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 23 November 2014
pretty cool stuff, I wonder how much difference would make if the tables were linear ie all colors reach the target color only at the last step. | User Comment Submitted by Brush on 23 November 2014
Thank you. This doc proved useful already few times (i was using an older beta version from Carrion) :) | User Comment Submitted by v3to on 15 August 2014
the new vic settings are based on my vice settings (pepto with adjusted brightness/saturation).
the old vic color fades are based on ste'86 palette. i did not choose pepto here because 'old vic fades' are meant as an early approach for common fades in an upcoming version of this doc and steve's colors are more like a mix between old and new lumas. | User Comment Submitted by user on 15 August 2014
Thanks for sharing this more technical document. But what palette/values did you use to get the brightness values of the new/old VIC? Is it based on the work of pepto's luma values? | User Comment Submitted by Monte Carlos on 14 August 2014 User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 14 August 2014
@enthusi: ok thanks but again the terms "new vic" and "old vic" aren't obvious from a first look (for me at least ) | User Comment Submitted by enthusi on 14 August 2014
the term 'chain' felt most suitable for a single 4 bit lookup-table.
I.e.:
mapcolor ;!byte $00, $01, $02, $03, $04, $05, $06, $07, $08, $09, $0a, $0b, $0c, $0d, $0e, $0f
.byte $00, $0d, $09, $0c, $02, $08, $00, $0f, $02, $00, $08, $09, $04, $03, $04, $05
So you can look up color-fades iteratively. $01 -> $0d -> $03 -> $0c ... | User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 14 August 2014
@enthusi: when you mean color chain you mean fade out from those table colors? | User Comment Submitted by enthusi on 14 August 2014
Ah, great you released those :)
The color chain was used in several Hires-Displayers, i.e.:

I think could be nice to see a little example for the colors fade lets say with black . and btw didn't understand why the char mode is only $07 values. old vic means $d800 and screen color? |
