Great little release, at least for it's time. It has a World First in it: First sideborder scroll made up of characters & sprites. The design tones down the effect, so it's not that visible to the untrained eye. Press ctrl+shift in Vice to see a bit of what's going on. The code at $10e0 show screen memory is shifted -1 to the left. So it's def not all expanded X sprites that sideborder demos had used up until then.
At the time this was released I don't recall anyone discussing the implications of the effect. It took a long time before anyone "claimed" this effect first. I remember thinking about this demo at the time this happened. Perhaps it was not spread that widely? Why had it's memory stuck with me? Perhaps because it was a Norwegian demo that impressed me at the time. Music is basic, but got character.
The demo got that typical "in-your-face" attitude that many of the TCC members had, knowing they were elite. TCC had UK members that were active on compunet + they cracked own games and traded with the best in Europe. They could say "FU" to people including Newlook, Hellmates and Razor(!?) perhaps the most profiled Norwegian groups at the time.
A big plus is the original music and not following the flow using a Hubbard track like most demos did at the time.
Too bad Miki did not make more demos - or perhaps he did but was not credited? |
