@Hein: I figured so to... But that still does not explain the weird date for the Atari 2600 version.
It really contradicts all the wikipedia, and other stuff saying that the Arcade was first.
Nowadays of course we all know that the game very well may be first, and the movie and versions (narrative) come later ;D
I wonder. Could that very well have been in the 1980s also.

Ok guys! Thanks ya'll for sorting my life out.
Now I am free to go on with that mystery finally solved.
It was in 1985 I first played that game...
But on the other hand I am not quite sure I trust any of your
comments or sources. I have counted at least around 10 sites and
many crediting this release back to 1983 or 1984. All the other platforms
this game was converted to has other dates.
The game release seem to date back all the way to the 4th of October 1983,
which would mean that there are many groups that cracked this game
quite some time after the release. Could that be impossible? I don't know
but there is some issues left to solve concerning the source of information
where get their facts from.

The game got released on the Nov 12th, 1982 for the Atari 2600.
For the Arcade the release date says: Dec 31, 1969. Hmmm

Reviewed in Zapp, which got first released in May '85. (See cassette cover)

| Was Spy Hunter actually released 1983 on the C64? I doubt it because the original arcade game was released december 1983. I belive the C64 conversion infact was released 1985. |

This is probably the first car game i ever played on the C64.
The funny thing is that I wasn't even aware back in the day that it was totally "hot" when I was home at a friends place and ran it.
The year was 1983.
