I also think the main problem is not the format/player, but the animation itself. There are too many edges in the logo that produce extra data for every frame that cant be compressed away. I think the thing closest to the vectoranim player in batman forever is the tunnel in http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=94458. This one displays 224 frames of animation lossless compressed to 31 kb with a playback running mostly in 25 fps. | User Comment Submitted by Martin Piper on 31 March 2011
Yes, hires smaller stepped rotations compress a lot better. This is for a second chunk of data to get loaded in while the sprites are animating. :) The thing that kills the compression here are the multicolour triangles on the big logo. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 31 March 2011
try adding more frames, the more frames you add, the more efficient the skip code will be. the hires anim in reanim8ed has like 100 frames or so :) | User Comment Submitted by Martin Piper on 31 March 2011
Groepaz, adding a skip code saves a total of 1147 bytes for the whole animation. Unfortunately this char data tends to change a lot per frame to make much use of a skip code. I'm now thinking about detecting duplicate data that has moved location. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 30 March 2011
martin: try rle plus a "skipcode", which skips N bytes in the output that didnt change from the previous frame. that works wonders for compression ratio AND it speeds up decompression a LOT. | User Comment Submitted by Celtic on 30 March 2011
Very nice! Do more demos Martin! | User Comment Submitted by lemming on 30 March 2011
A big bunch of sprites always turns me on :D very nice! The ye olde style is lovely.

Nice! :) About 3D logo animations, check out the end part of Sphaeristerium :P | User Comment Submitted by Martin Piper on 30 March 2011 User Comment Submitted by Skate on 30 March 2011
very nice part with oldschool feeling. we still have a lot to do to beat batman group's vector part. :) | User Comment Submitted by The Human Code Machine on 30 March 2011
Nice small demo and the multiplexer looks familiar ;) What compression did you use for the logo? | User Comment Submitted by Motion on 30 March 2011
The Mean Streak tune is very reminiscent of David Whittaker's style, but currently we don't know who composed it for sure. | User Comment Submitted by NecroPolo on 30 March 2011
Martin sent me the 3D rotator code somewhere yesterday afternoon, then 2 hours later the final version with everything already mounted. Quite some speedy coding, I'd say :)
Thanks for positive thoughts about the music, I must admit that it's power is the fine original. I just glued together the fitting parts from the subtunes and added a midpart break. Originally it was an example tune made for Martin's MS multiplatform editor:
Music Studio 2.1.0.7
MS goes a totally different direction from all other present SID creating tools, more raw and old-school. I quite much enjoy composing with it :)
BTW Mean streak, by any chance, is there someone who knows the composer who created the original SID? I had some info that it was Matt Gray but it seemed to be false. | User Comment Submitted by Martin Piper on 30 March 2011
Thank you for the feedback.
Groepaz it is compressed, but I left some space in this version for a second part to link in. :) | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 30 March 2011
Great work! Actually I like the lack of frames, looks oldskewlish. Though I usually shun game tune remixes and love MeanStreak original, this tune is just AWEsome! Congratulations! | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 30 March 2011
mmmh i have mixed feelings with this - nice tune and sprite multiplexer is always a winner :) that logo anim could use some more frames for my taste though, looks a bit rough - is it (delta?) packed already? | User Comment Submitted by FATFrost on 29 March 2011
MAAAAAAAN!!! THIS TUNE IS A TASTY BITCH!!!!! CANNOT TURN OFFFFFFFFFFFFF..............RAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!............ | User Comment Submitted by FATFrost on 29 March 2011

This is nice. The way the logos spin against the direction of the scroll has a full feeling. | User Comment Submitted by MagerValp on 29 March 2011 User Comment Submitted by PAL on 29 March 2011
That put me in a good mood... great! | User Comment Submitted by Martin Piper on 29 March 2011
This only took a few hours to knock together. It was a quick test of an idea after seeing a rotating Batman logo from the Amstrad demo "Batman Forever". While that demo only had the rotating logo and music I decided to add some sprites over the top. |
