I'm always happy to see again new games for our system with new game ideas (or imported ideas). So it extends the spectrum - that's great! Excellent release!

So far my personal favorite in this year's competition :)

What everyone said, also about "make this an app if nobody did yet and make some money".

A very simple concept using one control. Very addictive. Excellent game overall.

@Lazycow The samples in the intro "welcome to p0 snake" are 8-bit and I use Mahoney's technique: p0-snake detects the SID model and uses the appropriate amplitude table. The in-game samples are just normal digi that can be played along with music. The compression of the samples gave me the headache: I ended up using a codebook based compression scheme with variable codebook size (4 to 64 samples per codebook) and variable sample-rate in the range between 4 and 8 khz (formants like vowels require a lower sample rate). The codebooks are "unrolled" in the actual code to be easy on the player, given that I could use the entire 64k space at playtime. I think that the entire speech part takes about 4 kbytes. To be honest it would have sounded much better if I only had a couple of kbytes more, as I had to be very aggressive with destructive compression to stay within the 16kb limit. In fact, after the compo, I might release a 18 kbyte version with clearer speech :-).

How did you play the samples and how much bytes did they use?
PS: "welldone" ;)

Is there an iPhone app for this already? Perhaps you could make some money! :D

A very original take on the Snake theme. The quirky control works brilliantly and brings the whole Snake genre to a higher level. This fun and highly polished little game deserves to do well :)

I think this may be my favourite entry so far. Pixel City Skater comes hot on its heels though.

Not that I dislike the other entries. I'm enjoying them all.

@Jammer yes, it's by no means an easy game, I'm sorry! I spent quite some time calibrating difficulty with the help of some friends, so I hope everyone can make progress with perseverance. I can now get to level 15 on a single game, and I can finish it using the continues (though with maaaany attempts), but I had to play it so much to test it that I guess that's normal :-P.

@didi docs incoming. Thanks!

Why don't you upload the txt-file here along with the game, as it belongs to it?

That's what I was afraid of ;) I'd say game is demanding enough :D Anyway, probably my favourite from this year's 16KB bunch ;)

@Jammer: Codes are given every two levels, so you will get a new when you reach the fourth one. Coder will probably confirm. :)

Thanks everybody. I'm really flattered by this unexpected response and for your kind comments! This community is unbelievable.

@Jammer the game gives you passwords only for even levels. It would be like having infinite lives otherwise ;-). The RGCD release comes with a handy readme.txt that will give you all the details. There are more samples when you advance to further levels like "TELEPORT!". And maybe some skilled players can find some Easter eggs? I'm just saying ;-)

OMG, what an awesome game! Great idea and mad programming skills ;) If only 'crunch' sample fit in those 16KB, I would give 11/10 :D

I probably spotted a mistake. I got to level 3 but game gave me level 2 code after game over.
