Just watched this on a real C64 with quite a big TV. First I have to say that this is an amazing piece of art on the C64. Thumbs Fucking up!! :D Then I have to mention, that, if you watch the Picture from the distance you will recognize that there is a big heart in the middle of the screen. Couldn't figure out how it could describe the feeling of "absence" though.
However, have to print this out and hang it on the wall! GOTCHA! :D | User Comment Submitted by Joe on 18 October 2006
And I simply love you guys, part from using a 20 year old piece of crap (on any other platform). Let's hope there are more of you guys who are willing to sacrifice a bit to search new fields of investigation. ;D /James | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 20 September 2006 User Comment Submitted by Thunder.Bird on 13 September 2006
Yesss! Kicks ass!! New Art may be the future on C64.... Abscence-Distance is like a metallic plate with rust on it, with highs and lows, very plastic and realistic. Nobody else than Joe is able to awake one pixel to life. But one mistake still is: Want mor of that!!!! | User Comment Submitted by Scout on 31 August 2006
I definitely would hang this on my wall!

@Blackdroid: i kind of agree with Jucke on this. I have seen expressionistic stuff from Poison before, you're right it not being abstract. But i do feel 'real' expressionism is hardly possible on the c64, and supposingly Poison did it 'the right way'. (i don't believe in expressionism with a joystick).
Nonetheless, this picture, whatever process it's been through, looks amazing. And looking at the comments, James takes the scene by his hand, and have had us make (yet) another step. | User Comment Submitted by Valsary on 31 August 2006
WOW!!! this is art! ...How much DMT did you smoke? ;) Thumbs up | User Comment Submitted by Jak T Rip on 28 August 2006 User Comment Submitted by Jucke on 27 August 2006
@blackdroid: I am high on flädersaft. And you? Adrenaline? (: Let me tell you, I am really happy to see a picture like this being released. In fact, I have been waiting for it to happen for years. And no, I am not trying to diss Joe. I love his graphics and think I have seen most of his released work, and Ed is without doubt my favourite sid musician on this planet. I respect the twins, and voted this piece we're talking about a clear 10. | User Comment Submitted by blackdroid on 27 August 2006
@jucke: are you drunk and/or high ? afaik joe has only made _one_ interlace picture and that one was not a boris vallejo conversion. quite sad that joe still gets connected with a couple of vallejo conversions he made 1993. given the numerous pictures he has released since.
and since when did poison/oneway do abstract pieces ? | User Comment Submitted by Jucke on 27 August 2006
Nice conversion/retouch of what probably originally was a real oil painting by Joe. Very impressive and far out, but I am not raising eyebrows. Poison/Oneway did abstract c64 graphics with the impression of using oil/crayons/etc some ten years ago or more, but he did it freehand. I really dig this, but in my mind it's already "poison style c64 gfx", only this time by the master of boris. Way to go. | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 27 August 2006
This one and also the previous one by Joe also is great. I almost never get impressed by C64 graphics, but this stuff is nice for sure! Perhaps a bit too "intellectual", but that's ok. | User Comment Submitted by Deev on 27 August 2006
Looks nice. It does a really good job of converting the 'feel' of acrylic into pixels. | User Comment Submitted by Fungus on 26 August 2006
I very much like this, it's fantastic. The title suits it very well, and it's very attractive to my eye. Bravo.

Oswald: he replied to me in PM. And Crimson also answered the question. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 26 August 2006
"disturbing" is quite the right attribute for this. i love it. and i hate it too. | User Comment Submitted by Hein on 26 August 2006
By hand? Gosh. That seems quite pointless. (At least I would never handpixel an original abstract painting or drawing I did) | User Comment Submitted by Crimson on 26 August 2006
@Wile Coyote: The picture is a Joe's original done by hand, using acrylic paint, coloured pencils and inc on paper. Afterwards it was converted by hand (keyboard and Drazpaint). | User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 26 August 2006
This is definitely not my kind of art. I'm too straight minded for colorful waves and stuff, but since most of you like it, I guess it must be cool in one or another way.
Btw: I'm also wondering about the spontaneousity of such a piece, how is an image like this one made? Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about wiring or alike. Seems to me that painting something like this on PC or C64 pixel-by-pixel is much less dynamic than doing it on canvas with paint. Just curious about the tehnique, as it's outstanding. | User Comment Submitted by Style on 26 August 2006
i dunno - I either love it or I hate it. I cant decide......
| User Comment Submitted by Mirage on 26 August 2006
Quite a troubling picture indeed... Took me a while to see two misformed heads through all that garbage... the right one seems to be puking and the left one seems to be temping the right one in some weird way
That's probably not what it is... I gave it my best shot :) (and for what it's worth, i'd rather be in beds of green ;)
A bit too abstract and dark for me, but nice all the same | User Comment Submitted by Skate on 26 August 2006
@Jetboy: Does it really look converted to you? :)
Nice work. Unique style. | User Comment Submitted by Jetboy on 26 August 2006
Not my type of art. I would rather take boobs and dragons.
It looks more like quick dabling with tablet, a couple of photoshop filters, and conversion using thimanthes. But if it was hand painted then respect. | User Comment Submitted by dalezy on 25 August 2006
in the ongoing series of gfx releases this must be the most disturbingly beautiful pic i've seen yet - both color- and compositionwise. 9/10.
though i will prolly say the same about the 7 new pics that are going to be released by tomorrow. | User Comment Submitted by Laxity on 25 August 2006 User Comment Submitted by Burglar on 25 August 2006 User Comment Submitted by stash on 25 August 2006

simply stunning. Only your own imagination is the limit. | User Comment Submitted by Tch on 25 August 2006
This speaks even to my -non existant- imagination. 8D
Lovely piece! | User Comment Submitted by Jazzcat on 25 August 2006
Yes, I also get the impression it is an oil-based piece. It seems to have some real shape and defining points - almost coming out of the screen. Thumbs up! | User Comment Submitted by Hein on 25 August 2006
I agree with Crimson. Impressive suggestive depth with the use of colours. | User Comment Submitted by Crimson on 25 August 2006
I have the impression that it was done using true oil paints. Splendid piece. |
