j0x,

I'll post the WAV file when I get home.

The frequencies in the mp3 are about 4% higher than those in my SidPlay2/win version (Feb 22 2009), corresponding to (slightly more than) the difference between NTSC and PAL clock rates.

SidPlay recognizes and plays the sid as an NTSC sid -- forcing PAL frequencies makes it go even lower, so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Is the problem with the mp3? Sidplay?

I guess I could check what values are written to the SID and compare the frequencies of the waveforms, but that's for some other time.

"it seems this would be a good SID for tuning the performance of the ReSID engine."
if by that you mean "test how much it can take before it crashes", then yes.
seriously, WTF?

I play audio on my PC and C= equipment through the same speakers, and they sound different. So I sampled the audio directly from my flat 128 and have uploaded an MP3 to my website and linked it here. You'll notice that it's much cleaner without the popping of the emulated playback.

Regardless of whether you like the tune, it seems this would be a good SID for tuning the performance of the ReSID engine.

Isn't it that you have PC and C64 attached to different sound setups? I assume it's often mistaken - people say it doesn't sound like real hardware whereas they listen to it on different outputs :D The tune itself is rather cacophony, regardless of being played on real C64 or emulator.

I think FBR. :) Got me interested to have a look at the Mssiah user interface, though. A pitty the Mssiah SID engine is pretty bad, it could've had alot more potential, even for the hardcore SID musicians running around at CSDb.

Sorry, but the rip doesn't sound like the real hardware does any more than playing the code in VICE. The bass is all muddy and the drum is crackly and there's popping that simply doesn't happen on a real 6581.

As for taste and style, there's no accounting for either. I'm not going to be offended if nobody changes their vote after listening on real hardware.

After listening with reSID-FP it definitely sounds better in VICE than it does in SidPlay. That said, it's still not correct. I will sample it from my 128 when I get home and upload the MP3.

With all due respect, this tune goes nowere and it's just ugly, for my taste. It's not a matter of VICE not playing it correctly (did you try resid-fp instead of resid?)
Uploaded the resulting sid rip, in case you want to listen it with sidplay2.6 or whatever player you want.

I would respectfully request that anyone who has voted on this release based only on how it sounds in VICE that they play it on real hardware and adjust their vote if they feel inclined to do so.

I find that actually quite interesting, and it sure lives up to its title.

Just downloaded this to play at work with VICE. I had no idea that the MSSIAH player would sound so bad on VICE. If you play this on real hardware you'll enjoy it a lot more.
