It's just a little Show-Effect. (What you see is what you get)

If you press an A on the Keyboard (like here on the Screenshot) you get the Hex-Value $41
from the Keyboard-Buffer ($ffe4) & if you send $41 to the Print Routine ($e716) you'll get the A on the Screen.
But if you poke the Value ($41) straight to the Screen (8d 00 04) you get the character beside the 'Keyboard:' text.
