I wish people would throw away VICE and buy a C64 with paddles instead :D

ok so it's not only me who has this problem but still I wonder why arkanoid works with paddle, i have to test something else. Edit: also Clowns cart game by Commodore works flawlessly with paddle in port 1.
The original CRT version of this game works even with my VICE build. This crack probably does something that VICE 2.3.10 doesn't like. Removing the intro and starting the game by itself solves the problem, so there's something in the exit routine from the intro that makes the paddle reading faulty, but again, only in current vice build, not a bad crack problem.
There is still something in current VICE trunk that doesn't work as it should =)
edit2: bug easily reproduced, bug report filed at SF and FIXED in no time by Blacky. Now works.

I wish people would throw away 2.3 until a more stable version is released. :D

Ian: Some people have reported the exact same problem in some builds of vice (see http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=335866.. ), dunno if it helps you...

Sorry iAN - I can't help then. That is what I'm doing here. Left click to switch states, left and right movement with the mouse moves the player :(

of course is what i did, and i repeat, works with arkanoid and not with this. It just reacts to the mouse button by opening & closing the character's mouth, but no movement.

iAN - I'm using the WinVICE-2.3-x86 here. You have to change mouse settings to Paddle in port 1, then press ALT-Q whilst the window is active to capture the pc mouse input as a paddle in-game. I hope that helps!

strange, doesn't work here in vice 2.3.10, while arkanoid for example works fine setting paddle in joyport1

Far better to play with paddles on a real C64 but it also works very well to play in VICE with mouse.

Probably worth mentioning that this game is paddle controlled only. Go on, buy a pair - Panic Analogue is worth it :)
