I have only listend to this version and I listend to Erasures version today.
I would like say I prefer the SID version.

When designing the cover versions I used the original music of the 16th century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaudete.

I'm surprised they took a well kwnon song from 1700's.. this is a far better version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN9AJj9rtlk .. I heard erasure's one.. the vocal harmonies make the tune.. as being a synth head, I like Vince clarke.. they trashed a far better version :p
