Mmmh i didnt really notice a difference back then *shrug* The MV can play back the various at different speeds though (which the sample player can not) so maybe that's it?

Sorry, of course this is an awesome release. It's just that on a PAL C64, the voice playback in Wizard of Wor is slower than on the same C64 with the real Magic Voice speech module that I finally tried out (left behind by my brother).

I thought that you need an NTSC machine to get the correct sample speed for the voices. But checking in an emulator now, it is the same (too slow) speaking speed. I guess it was a concious decision, to avoid crippled gameplay by the sample playback?

An ultimate release! NOTHING to argue here!

The speed refers to the actual gameplay, its 20% faster on NTSC.

Missed opportunity? How?

NTSC recommended for authentic speed - why? I have the real Magic Voice now and compared it. Running on a PAL C64, the speech in Wizard of Wor is faster than in this release. Also the quality of the speech is a lot better with the real Magic Voice. A missed opportunity.

Any chance Wizard of Wor can be released on its own, so I can burn a flash cartridge and put it inside my real Wizard of Wor cartridge shell?

it's regular $d418 samples at 4khz ... and actually sounds surprisingly similar to a real magic voice :)

Very nice to be able to play these the way they were intended! The speech doesn't sound very clear though. (tested with two different machines both with 6581 SID) Is this actually how it sounds with MagicVoice module?

Great release!

I had the opportunity to listen to a real MV module on a DoReCo meeting; this sounds really like it.

I take it the speech is sorta mixed in with the normal SID sound?

Awww... very cool. Thanks for the effort.
No need for real MVs anymore I guess :)
