I think less texture on the ground would have provided for a more smooth transition from background picture to the area where the characters move around.

I kind of get a feeling that some people wouldn't look twice at this if this was released as a piece of art outside the compo (but not me), but in the compo in my opinion, this is some really nice, good old fashioned, multicolour game graphics. Good job.
