In the BCC#8 intro the rotating dots do not represent default ROM characters making the movement smoother.
This one only uses characters that exist in the ROM charset.

CharROM will never be out of fashion, it's good, though you could do a lot more with that effect without much more effort.
As many of us, I've been there, done that ;) BCC#8 Invitro (Wind behind Projector Screen)
Of course someone has done similar stuff decades earlier and probably better.
