Tumdidum.. basic.. seuck.. basic.. basic.. seuck.. sigh.. seuck.. basic.. coffee.. basic.. seuck..

Just another dumpster diving day.. the things we do these days to find originals for you guys..

sigh.. back to work guys... basic.. basic.. basic.. curse.. coffee more coffee!

This basically seucks! But oh wait, what’s this.. ?

Excess is proud to bring you a truly nice needle in a haystack find today:

Race Through Space +2HD

A very nice little needle in the haystack indeed which was dug out by Baracuda in
his never resting search for pirate booty amongst ;)

Some research was done.. as the game references copyright to Firebird, yet sadly it seems to be a little

gem never released under that lable in 1990.. especially considering the Firebird lable was only used

once in 1990..or so at least Wikipedia says :)

And admittedly, although initial examination showed a disk containing the full multi file game, on

further inspection there were a (cough) few fixes that Faayd needed to lay his hands on to make the game
slightly more enjoyable and less glitchy..

-The game was one-filed so you can save a bit of pocket money on disks ;)

-A high-score saver was added.. obviously only working if you don’t use the trainers

-A little docs file was added by Sentinel prior to

linking, to explain the game and high

-score controls

-And then there were the glitches and bugs.. good thing we had Faayd working on them.

No rush on such a release.. and since it had been a while for the Excess testing team to work on a release without
time pressure.. Ghost and Bordeaux ended up in a race to see who could do the most nitpicking.. Faayd ended up getting a good run for his money..

-A couple of additional screen clearing was added

-Bonus scores containing non

-numeric symbols were fixed so the high scores were finally fair

-Several explosions glitches were fixed

-Some funny Danglish typos were adjusted

-A colour bug in the car appearing during a crash was fixed

-Garbage letters after a game

-over were fixed

-Counter sprites had a vanity make-over (mainly emulator cosmetics.. but why not fix that too)

-Some random sprite ghosting of the car was fixed

-A new game-over sprite was added

-And a handful of minor patches here and there were done along the way, either to clean up code, or memory where it made sense.

So you think you deserve more?

Well, our slogan is “more than you deserve” for a reason.. Let’s see what 2019 has in store ;)

We would truly love to be able to spend more time on first releases as we did with this release..

But for now this one is going up on the February scoreboard with a large smile on our faces, knowing it’s

more than just cranking up our tally.. you can expect a lot more!

A BIG thank you goes out to all friends and fans who kept us motivated during 2018!

Please keep your enthusiasm rolling towards us, whether it’s here on CSDB, PMs, Messenger, Facebook,

forums, retro meetings, scene parties or even the rare conference calls etc. we love it!

Excess had a fantastic ride throughout 2018, and we would like

to thank you all for giving us so much

feedback.. from a simple thanks, to tips/suggestions, to requests, to invites, to originals, party entries,

booze, hardware, cash, sids, graphics, awards.. this year was insane and we love you for it, thanks!

Likewise we raise our mugs to all the crews that ran the rat
-race with us in 2018, and although we salute every active crew throughout the year in our scrollers it also has to be said: Thanks guys.. even though we don’t nearly get enough chance to meet you all in person.. it really was an honor to sail with you all!

Last but not least.. We would like to make a special tip of our hats to our friends in Laxity for winning last year’s race with a landslide, a true inspiration again in the first release game!

Although it seems like a mission impossible to catch you guys.. we will do our best to keep you from falling asleep behind the wheel and occasionally pop up in your rearview mirror ;)

Signed, sealed and delivered from the boys in the Excess family.. with love for your drive.
