1st part: There are 2 kinds of people, people who don't like clowns... and clowns!

Having survived that part, it's getting better all the time :)

Some great stuff in there, but sounds are a bit too modern for the period and a bit too much of a jumble/mash up. Very evocative of being in the arcades though.

@jammer, yep I read the rules once again. Maybe I was just too excited to really keep it there in 1983... :-) Lots of great entries so far!

@Flex: Compo is generally about sounding pre-Hubbardish, so to speak ;) And I believe this tune aims more at arcade than C64 vibes :)

great tune but sounds a bit too advanced for 1983 me thinks..
There has been talk about when first arpeggios were heard but I'm pretty sure it was not as early as 1983..

#story :)

The tune brings back that scene soooo much, reminded me of a summer afternoon spent before some chopper iteration of Space Invaders and Star Wars. I can't recall the actual year but definitely before '85.

That 2:00+ part when C64 takes action is epic.

OK, maybe from 1:58 onwards to let the epic moment build up. (wanted to edit my previous comment, but can't)

That short, beautiful moment from around 2:30 onwards is one of the most epic moments in the history of SID. Please make a complete tune out of it. Pretty please.

Fantastic! I can instantly see arcade cabinet in front of me that begs for my hard begged pocket money :D I love how it evolves into more modern vibes in the end <3

It's 1983, Autumn, new arcades is opened in my neighborhood. Can't wait to see what games they have :D I enter, it's packed with kids but only one game available producing somewhat lame sounds. I approach it and it's a brand new Commodore arcade machine!? 'Commodore, but that's a computer, not an arcade, darn it!' I mutter with disapproval.
Well, i brought buncha coins, so...I insert one and all of a sudden the machine TRANSFORMS into something...more vibrant, lively even. I see some blobs and blocks, i dunno what I'm supposed to do, but it seems that there are more and more characters with more than 2 colours, the background getting more and more detailed. The music is getting faster, i see some Kung Fu ninjas, and they appear better and better animated as i play. 'Ha,' I exclaim , 'I knew it, this is Japanese (the music, gotta be Japanese, they're the only ones making cool games)'. Then, slowly but steadily, everything surrounding the machine darkens, and the screen starts to produce more and more colours, characters, background sliding left and right. I could swear i heard more than 3 sounds at the same time... Than i hear a whistle, i turn. It's the owner, he slaps me saying 'What the hell are you doing kid, standing there frozen!? Let others play, this ain't your personal arcade, ya know!' I look around, kids waiting in a cluster behind me, yelling, nervous since this is the only machine in here. I exit the arcades, thinking to myself 'what the hell...?!?' Characters with more than 2 colours... sliding backgrounds... more than 3 sounds... on a Commodore?!? Pffft... Yeah right, like that's ever gonna happen' :D
