Its primary use is together with an UII(+) cartridge to manage conflicts between the internal drive of a 128D(CR) and emulated drives of the UII(+) cartridge. It provides fast access to usb storage (bypassing the iec bus and using dma where possible) when used with the UII(+) cartridge (firmware 3.9 or later) Additionally it has diagnostics/test code for vdc ram, system and color ram, and reu. It can be used without UII(+) cartridge as function rom in U36 or on a versacart or such, or as internal/external function rom with emulators. The code will figure out from what slot it is running and if it is running from an UII(+) and which firmware it has, and will en/disable features accordingly. The Commodore 128 device manager rom addresses those issues, and provides some nice extra features exclusively for your Commodore 128. This rom supports the Ultimate II cartridge command interface, and some features are not available if the command interface is not enabled, or no Ultimate II is installed.
