Thanks! Yes I did find it difficult to get a lead tone on the SID that fit the tune. Thanks for your suggestions. Maybe a sampled lead might fit the song better (if enough memory) and keep the SID just for the chords... Anyway I doubt I will revisit this particular song - probably too many versions of it already… but thanks to everyone for listening and to those who gave feedback - all appreciated!

I don't mind it! Maybe the bass could be a bit more punchy. I can see how you ended up with that lead sound, maybe a slightly different pulse setting would have worked better. I think sometimes with C64, you just have to own the limited capacity and tweak the tune for what sounds best rather than what sounds closest to the original. That said, I still enjoyed listening to it.

This is only your 4th or 5th tune? If that's the case, not many reach this level this quickly.

First of all, cheers for the experiment!

Quite interesting and high risk of being beat up ^^

Percussions ain't bad. But what iAN sez about lead instrument is not only true but unfortunately also true for "bass".

BTW I don't think it sounds _a_lot_ 'better' on 8580 but at least bass is recognizable at all as such.

It's cool up to 0:25, then the instrument used for the main refrain is dull and boring... Like it's composed by 2 different persons.
Other than that, removed 4-mat as author of this sid as it's not true, you're covering his mod, ok, but he's not to be credited for your cover.

Thanks for listening In any case… I’ve obviously opened a Jarre of worms with this release! (Sorry that was really terrible). Incidentally, I think it is better on 8580 than 6581 but thanks for your feedback. I would be interested to know which bits specifically need improvement though.

@GPZ: how you said that without using “it’s a little Jarre-ing” I’ll never know. Too late now, though, the opportunity has sailed.

I love 4-Mat’s original… and of course Jarre’s. I’d love to hear a modern version of this music.
