It's because uses an LDA $de00 to get a random number.

Hm, if fails on my c64 (TFR 0.8). All chars stay red.

It's sort of scarey. It's like the screen is hypnotizing you and at the same time your computer has become a time bomb and it's ready to blow. Very freaky demo. tick tick tick tick tick tick B O O M ! ! !
