It worked for me on Mac Os X Snow Leopard... Looks promising.

Go ahead, load 'er up! :)

Double click was the only way how I could do anything on the char template in the bottom right.

The fill worked in the top view. Still strange though, that it only works when dragging top left to bottom right.

Double click to paint!? I've never double clicked ;)
Besides, filling works only top-left to bottom-right here...
I've done lots of improvements, the program is almost usable now. I can upload again if there is any interest.

Ok, having that information would've helped :)
I expected a double click on the .jar file to work.

The app loads up fine and I can also change the main four colors on the bottom. Double click as paint is quite counter intuitive.

Also, the yellow selection rectangle in the top window. It is a rectangle when dragged top left to bottom right, but filled during any other drag direction. Is there supposed to be a difference?

Sorry if I come out overly harsh.

java -jar tilemapeditor.jar worked for me on both Windows Vista and Linux Fedora 10.

"Could not find the main class. Program will exit!"

But at least it doesn't work cross platform :)
