One thing I'm missing is the ability to scale images down and/or move them around. Right now you have to scale down/crop images in another app before converting.

The boris example interleaves pixels in all layers in both in x and y direction hence reducing the flicker significantly at the expense of less color possibilities each 8x8 block.
