Experimenting with colorschemes, like so many of us in those days. In retrospect it seems like the rainbows of any 80:ies futuristic neonlight, or colorful 70:ies, any plastic interior of the 60:ies and or the tuned graphics from the 50:ies... And so forth, found it's way to our scene, eventually.
In the 90:ies, it seems almost like fear of the colorless, making anything glow in all 16 colors, possible with the new VIC-chip.

I should know, I'm still there, suffering from both that and horror vacui, with the knowledge that space is articulated in the joint or if one wants, the border and hence is energized (filled) :)
