Ah, that's where the problem is. I must have been using a pre-2015-version before. Now I am testing it with the latest, but patched, version. I just downloaded the latest version and yes: the cartridge refused to start.

i see it now, he has a branch "zyonee" there which includes a (slightly broken) 1mb patch

that fork is up to date with VICE trunk - so it supports exactly what VICE trunk does. you can just look in the repo here - 16 banks max., ie 128k. any binaries that work with 512k must be either patched, or they are from before 2015 :)

If there is something wrong with the zyonee-project files then that is out of my control. However the included magicdesk.c-file should work, unless I mixed something up - now you're making me confused. However both my compiled x64.exe and zyonee's compiled x64.exe does work with 1MB, I just ran it right now. I have both the binaries (for Windows) here if anyone wants to verify it. No wait, I will temporaily put it in the cartbins folder on it.bubblan.se, ok?

you must be using 2.4 then?

anyway, when this hardware becomes available in volumes worth considering - drop me a mail (or PM here) and i might consider updating VICE to support it.

(the "fork" you mention in the readme also only supports 128k, btw :))

if it's 1MB... how about doing the compilation as EasyFlash cart?

Will work on 1 MB Magic Desk cartridges, preferably with a 27c801 eprom. 512 MB can be used also, only need to wire up the last address pin (from 5v, cut it!) to the last pin on the latch, and yes the latch to the address pin on the port of course. I have about 40 PCBs in the mail and about 200 shells in the basement. You can get them from me as soon as I get the new batch tested. I have never had any problems with vice and 512 kb cartridges myself but what do I know. Maybe I was just lucky. But yes, it will refuse to load odd sized cartridges.

The magic desk emulation in VICE was fixed to work correctly (which means supporting 128k at max) over two years ago - and newer versions obviously refuse to load cartridges with an invalid size.

what kind of hardware can this image be used with?

Now full version on external link. 1 MB will not run in VICE or CCS64. For VICE you need to replace magicdesc.c and rebuild for 1MB support. Tested with VICE 3.1 UNSTABLE Win32 and CCS64 3.8 and on the ASTERCART rev 5 cartridge PCB (real hardware).

It doesn't, at least not in VICE 3.1
Ask a moderator if a file is larger for normal users limit, besides a crt that only works in broken old emulators is not valid in any case for a real c64

Yes, no real Magic Desk type cartridges are this big. I just downloaded it and started it in VICE and CCS64. No problem. The cart should however be 1 MB so only the first half of the games will work. This is due to the 1024 KB upload limitation.
