Wow, props for player choice! :) For my ears, it's closest to '86, perhaps? :D Illustration is riot! :D

This is the title theme for my imagined 1983 Commodore 64 game Riot House, named after the moniker of the West Hollywood hotel that gained notoriety for accommodating bands/hellraisers such as Led Zeppelin (hence the tune’s quasi-hard rock style). The idea is that you would control a member of a band staying at the hotel, scoring points by doing things like riding motorbikes around the hallways and throwing TVs out of the windows – without getting caught by your tour manager.

I composed this tune using RobTracker by Jason Page, which is a tool that ports Rob Hubbard’s Electronic Arts-era player. So, perhaps it was not the most authentic approach for this compo, but I had been meaning to try RobTracker for a while, and I restricted myself in certain ways (no pulse-width modulation, no filtering, simple waveforms...) to try to get things sounding as ‘1983’ as possible.

Thanks to Joe for the killer graphics and Dr. Science for stitching things together for me!
