Is anyone still alive who has seen this as a fresh release? ;)

Of course stated copyright years can be wrong. It's often that when the software is finished (e.g. in November 83) it takes some months for the publisher to put it out.

I vaguely remember Paint Magic being previewed in one of the earliest 64'er (April 1984 was the first edition).

@Rough:
You´re right! The copyright information of Paint Magic says 1983. But this is not a proof that it was released in 1983. If you have a closer look at the arcade conversions of those days, you´ll often see that the copyright information are years before the release date.

As JEDi was found at the end of 1983, the crack of Paint Magic you can find here within CSDB is supposably done in 1984. Moreover have a look at: http://kofler.dot.at/c64/download/paint_magic.gif

But concerning further investigation we will ask JEDi if they might recall when they did the crack. As it was a major release those days, I think the odds are good. Moreover we will ride through their floppy disks for hints and clues.

Looking at the releases it was used on, I'd say it's from 1984, also Baxxx proved it's done with Paint Magic, which PROBABLY is from 1983. I found no official release date of that program, just this Ad with no time info.

Indeed one of the first ones... But from 1982 - I can't believe that... The sell of the C64 started in the US in september 1982 and in Germany and all other european countries it started in the beginning of 1983...

So I can't believe that it's really from 1982...

All those guys except the US ones talking about getting their C64 in 1982 have been wizards... I think only very few ones got an imported one...
