And you did it again! How wonderful!
Exam of architecture finished? Or interial design? :) | User Comment Submitted by JackAsser on 12 November 2007 User Comment Submitted by Radiant on 12 November 2007
JackAsser: Nope. Had it been "de-veil", though... ;-) | User Comment Submitted by JackAsser on 12 November 2007
@radiantx: ahh true that, sorry for that mispelling, however I think the reasoning still applies. | User Comment Submitted by Twoflower on 12 November 2007
Re-veal? To turn vegetarian? | User Comment Submitted by Radiant on 12 November 2007
JackAsser: Except "reveil" isn't a word. "Reveal" is, though. :-P | User Comment Submitted by JackAsser on 12 November 2007
@Oswald: "Matematiker avslöjade koden till islamska mönster" => "Mathematician cracked the code to islamic patterns"
However the swedish word "avslöja" and the english word "reveil" are quite fun in this context since both "slöja" and "veil" are the name of the cloth commonly worn by islamic women to conceal their hair. ;D To re-veil or to av-slöja, means to remove the veil/slöja. | User Comment Submitted by FATFrost on 12 November 2007 User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 11 November 2007
"Matematiker avslöjade koden till islamska mönster" => matemathician 'avslöjade' codes till islam monster ?:D | User Comment Submitted by JackAsser on 11 November 2007 User Comment Submitted by DeeKay on 11 November 2007
Saehn: Bah, that's not folding, that's cutting! ;-) How lame!.. If I ever make something from paper with scissors, it's gonna be more something like this! Ghibli ftw! ;-D | User Comment Submitted by saehn on 10 November 2007
Deekay, I've never seen a modular origami model for this polyhedron, but here are instructions for making one out of paper: http://www.korthalsaltes.com/compound_of_five_cubes.htm
And Sander/Frantic, I think you're correct. "Islamic tiling" is the first thing that occurred to me when I looked at the background, too. I'm certain that it's not a net of the polyhedron. | User Comment Submitted by DeeKay on 9 November 2007
Very najs - Looks like a Kusudama! ;-)
It's certainly not Sonobe-based, so yes, Fatfrost, I would very much like the instructions on how to make it, because I can only do Sonobe (but large varieties thereof atleast! 8)
I really like the background - please do notice how the 3d-object was "torn" out of the green area (which should be dithered), into which its outlines just fit nicely... | User Comment Submitted by Mirage on 4 November 2007
your polyhedra tessellation seems broken, dear builder | User Comment Submitted by Joe on 4 November 2007
Quoting van der Rohe: "Build, don´t talk". | User Comment Submitted by Sander on 4 November 2007
@Frantic, iirc it's a traditional Turkish pattern. (edit: i was referring to stuff like this, guess we both meant the same thing. but mirage said it's really a polyhedra pattern.. so i guess we were both wrong ;) | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 4 November 2007
Isn't this that old islamic art trick? (Referring to the background.) | User Comment Submitted by Motion on 4 November 2007 User Comment Submitted by saehn on 3 November 2007
Very nice, Joe. This easily trounces my simplistic Platonic solid. I declare a geometry war! ;) | User Comment Submitted by FATFrost on 3 November 2007
i can make that object in real life, from a few paper squares, origami which i learned at primary school, pm me for recipe!
great work joe! | User Comment Submitted by leonofsgr on 3 November 2007 User Comment Submitted by Steppe on 3 November 2007
Respect. Amazing how many details one can work out at that resolution! The background is also like, hey, wow! |
