Great demo, unfortunately much too short. I could watch those plants grow for hours (almost). Why not use this code as the foundation of a longer demo?

2 very nice parts. I'm looking forward to a longer demo with more time spent on it.

nice to see how people cared about the oxyparty 2008 music compo ;)

btw... just the half of the tune was played in the demo

Very impressive stuff. Yeah, the organic growth was a great effect and the zoomer was neat. Love the background to it.

Respect to Exin and LordNikon for speedy contributions.

That zoom scroller was really nice and impressive! Looking forward to seeing more, and with better presentation. :-)

The tune's nice for being made in a short time.

Great effect. Skip the plant, it is by now untrendy stuff and do some more experiments of the great zoom + border stuff in the latter part!

Oh and the music was cool!

/(oh by the way. I really liked the plants and stuff.. dont get me wrong!)

And what a background for such a scroll! It looks like some of the wicked stuff I could have made and which you would call crap ;P

Girmann is a very promising coder, altho we would like to see him next time spend some more time on design and stuff :) Roman, I think Krill&Hcl is the king of such scrollers (hires) I havent wrote one so far:). this version's specialty that it manages to have a background layer aswell, and having it on the sides aswell.

really nice one! it would have deserved better gfx, though. music and coding are great. very cool for a first try. so keep on going in this direction.

Exactly. Vegetation/growing effect is top class stuff for visual impression. Also the PC demo by Andromeda Software (or how they are callled) which won Scene Awards had nice growing effect with rainbow lines and cars moving on them which was probably the easiest (?) effect to make, but most interesting (at least for me) from the whole demo ;-). And everyone has seen better zoomers on C64 already made by Graham or Oswald (maybe some others too). I look forward to see more demos from you. Meanwhile, please fill in your profile here in CSDB so we can see who is the dude behind the nick ;-)

I can mostly confirm Exin's comments. Besides that:

I've started working on this demo about 4 weeks before Breakpoint 08 as I wanted to actually show up with something to show this time.

IMHO emulators are a good thing as long as you know the dangers that arise from their use. During development of the scroller I suspected Vice of having a render bug because the scroller looked smooth and bug free although I thought there must be a render bug in the right side border. With that in mind I tried it on a real C64 - and there the expected bug actually appeared! Now with the bug being confirmed I was able to fix it prior to release. (I'd have done more tests on real C64 if I wasn't in such a hurry.)

Another thing that totally surprised me: The vegetation effect which I coded in only 2 hours got lots of applause while the zoomer which took me about 20 hours (including dead ends) didn't. Well, obviously it's not just about how difficult something is.

EDIT: Thanks to Exin & LordNikon for picture & music, without that the demo might have not reached #2.

Hi! Exin here. (last comment didnt save *grumbles*)

The Story behind the demo:

I was sitting next to someone who visited quite a few demoparties but never took part in compos. He has a own enviroment inside the Java Suite with a own Assembler. He told me the good features of his assembler and that it makes it fast to code on C64. (With emulator)

Well, back to the story. During the party he made some effects quick and mostly worked on the Zoomer. After a while, 2 hours before the deadline, he made quickly the flower effect and was just testing serval versionbs of it. He told me then that he needed some gfx because he wnted to release it as a demo. Then he disappeared for a hour and didnt tell me what he needed. When here was only 30 minutes time, he came back and told me what he wanted. In the same time, i asked LornNikon to contribute some canned music and somehow, Girmann put it all together. Well, LN's music was buggy and the scroller not written. We got one more hour after the deadline to fix it. Thats it.

We shared our contacts and want to put something much better next time. Promised! :)

A little bit unfinished but I liked the plant growing effect.

That nature-growth, oh yeah! What waste of a great idea! ;-( (I had similar for our planned DB'98 demo which never got until the gfx preparation phase, so who am I to blame, right? ;-) Could have been executed better, but still thanx for the proof-of-the-visual-concept.
