Thanks for the lots of comments. It is funny to see you arguing... :_) For all the doubters: there IS a sacrificial dagger in NEWCOMER. The player is not using it for combat or ritual sacrifices, though; it has certain other uses. I'm attaching the original photo and the small inventory icon from the game. BTW., I give fuck about who likes my stuff on CSDb, I am not pixelling for you. My motivation is NEWCOMER, it gives me a lot of inspiration. If you will play the game, you will see for yourselves...

nope but if u do intend to sacrifice someones life with a dagger it seems unlikely u would do it by bludgeoning them to death with it :P

Groepaz: The in-game inventory icon for it is just "thumbnail" sized, so Leon did a full resolution detailed version for CSDb.

Nice image, but the blade could use an update with a clearly defined edge. No requirement for a "fuller" as not all blades have them and they work just fine without them. ;)

Not my cup of tea. The image looks monochrome with an added tint.

The upper left, and lower right fade dither works well enough. The dagger looks blunt. Maybe it supposed to. The dagger handle bears all the hallmarks of a wired image, and lacking in sharpness / detail, associated with an image hand pixeled.

/no harsh feelings :)

i have no real problem with the colours (except my usual problem with pepto cyan not being "duck egg" enough) the dagger is picking up cyan highlight and brown lowlight from the surface its on. as it should if it was at all reflective.

however i do agree with an earlier poster that it desperately needs a hard sharp edge to that blade. and possibly a blood groove down the centre as its supposed to be sacrificial and without one you wouldn't get the thing to come out once u stuck it in someone.

pedantic maybe. but the finish is in the details.

I suppose it's also smart to presume when you say the dagger should be "bronze or copper" that you mean GREEN?! Or to presume it's smart that when there's a <16 colour Pepto paletted picture posted and you mention cyan and I point out it is, you start to talk about unlimited colours !? ROFL

Btw, just to nit pick myself, in your earlier post you're presuming the copper or bronze would be pure and not contain something like azurite (in the copper) ;)

i beg to differ. the artist is capable of better technique, and the gfx mode used shows lazyness, it probably works even in simple afli. and the motive is dull and non interesting. and as you said yourself - csdb isnt a backpetting community. especially not leon =)

There is this grade A pic inspired by / coming from this amazing game, and your biggest problem is? The blade looks not to be sharp and the material doesn't look to be oxidised copper through the super-rich capabilities of C64 palette...?!?

the c64 even has a specific color for it - cyan =) (although its too light, it should really be closer to dark green than light blue)

Considering the palette available I think it's fine, without having to nitpick the difference of "ish" colours.

sorry to say that, corroded (as in rusted) copper is always greenish (copper oxide) and never blueish - that would be copper sulfide and that usually doesnt play a significant role if copper is exposed to air/water. especially true for bronze, since there it is mixed with tin oxide, which is black, so you get a dark greenish patina.

apropos, do these pictures actually appear in newcomer? or are you just somehow obsessed with that game? =)

as for the pic, using blue for shading of metal that would in reality be more like copper or bronze is kind of fail and ruins it for me, sorry.

The dagger looks skewed. I am not sure whether this is intentional or not. In any case, it transforms the whole appearance of the dagger from a sharp nice dagger to a skewed sucky dagger. :)
