Who did this fantastic graphic?

http://pirates.emucamp.com/demos/K/kinky/c64/pic10.html

for those which the picture remembers of it's been the cover of Zzap! issue featuring Hawkeye

For a minute i tought it was a re-arange of the original picture. And if that where that case it would be either Jacco Van Riet or Arthur Van Jole.

the original picture looks a lot worse, and that says something as it's already pretty good

Maybe the guy from Thalamus who's spotted at the Lemon forum lately might know it.

There is something weird with this picture like it's converted, could it be a picture from the Amiga version of Hawkeye?

It looks very much like a conversion to me. It somehow also rings a bell, must be in a pretty old demo.

The original Hawkeye pic is by Robin Levy of Cyberdyne Systems and this ain't it. i've always assumed (and it really is an assumption) that the logo top left is a corporate and it was used on the American release of the game but i have nothing to back this up.

The screenshot is an Abnormal demo but i can't think of the name for the life of me...!

quick look leaves a feeling that the picture uses same methods than the Terminator II intro picture. Maybe the same dude drew both?

MIGHT also just be a redraw from the Hawkeye poster (or packaging?)... I've never seen the Amiga version of Hawkeye so I don't know what the title picture on that looks like....
the again, if it was a redraw, why did they place the logos like this... ?

like i already mentioned it is a redraw from the Zzap! front cover where they reviewed 'Hawkeye'

That same picture is also on the packaging for the game though. The guy who drew the Zzap covers (Oli Frey) is also the guy who did most of the Thalamus artwork (Hawkeye included), so I guess they came to some sort of deal.

If I remember correctly, the loading screen in the game (pixelled by Robin Levy) is also based around the same picture, but Robin did a more distant view with more of the guy visible, plus mountains etc. (though it would've worked better if he'd stuck to a close-up IMO).

And in my opinion, the above picture looks converted...

Hawkeye amiga gfx were all done by Jaco van t'Riet and i'm pretty sure the pic you're talking about here isn't anything to do with it, looks more like someones edited the c64 one and changed some colours etc.

Damn, was it really five years ago that we discussed this topic the last time? Anyhow, it seems that we are no closer to revealing the author now. It isn't converted, that's for sure. And the graphician is more than rather decent. It isn't cut-off - there is 5 chars missing of this pic. The last part of the logo could well have fitted there.

Question is rather - where did HBH (ZTH) get this pic?

Hold on a second, I just discovered something - check out the little man/logo at the top of the screen. If you look closely, the arms are covering the letters S and T, and the body itself is an I...

SIT. And after have scurried around a bit both here and over the web I discovered that he isn't as well documented as f.ex SIR'88 and other ones. This one fits right into the line of work he did during that time - just look at his alternative version of the Mega Apocalypse artwork. The usage of white is also quite in the same line as his earlier work.

With all probability made somewhere between August'88 and October'89. Check out the Compunet stuff around that time and you will likely find it.

I wasn't posting till very recently, guess I could have been more help..opps..

I have it on a disc somewhere, but the links here don't work.. but yer it is SIT.. I got a load more I really need to find to upload of use in a slide show or something.. I do remember the picture very well.

his conversion of the hawkeye artwork was very good.. one of my fav pics.

same with his robocop pic for ocean (who he was working for).. I think i brought up his name when they were discussing artists, and I don't think everyone has seen these pics.. so might change a few minds.

Robin Levy did do the official one in the game though, but not the one where the hawkeye man is closer up to the screen, that was sit's un official work.

although I was lucky to see some of Robin Levy's paper artwork on the walls of a at a certain rip off software house (system 3) while a friend (use that term loosely) was working there. Both good artists, Toy also did some nice cartoonist paper art. I feel dokk/matt/sir and a few more were the better known uk people, but sit did some nice work.

I agree with 2F, the technique resembles other SIT pictures. ZTH thanks Mario van Zeist for the help on game selling in Abnormal's Illegal demo, so maybe ZTH got the picture from Mario. Possibly SIT was indeed Levi's competitor for doing the title screen. I will ask Arthur if he knows anything about it.

but I see the graphic fine. It's rather a problem of a moved file I think. But thanks anyway, the colours on the CSDb pic are much better anyway. ;-)

No, you see it because it's already in your browser's cache. The rest of us get a broken image :)

I'm 100% sure its SIT.. I know, since he was part of the manchester scene (toy/jog/kernal/dolly/mik etc) , and I used to swap with people in pulsar etc who knew him.

well that was about the time armalyte was happening?

I'm trying to remember what other pics I've got somewhere that he did, maybe they were for fun rather than for commerical purposes or to just show his work like a showcase. Someone did mention the mega apoc one also, again that rings bells, he was very good at porting paper/picture artwork.

I wouldn't say they were competitors though, as SIT worked for ocean or went onto. he did the untouchables loading screen and some more. I can't recall. So far I've only found a very old pic, probably one of his better known ones.

Ok, let's re-animate this zombie-thread again.

As it seems, after three more years the original pic from SIT/STE is still nowhere to be seen. Have anybody (Chancer?) stumbled over the real image somewhere or should we try to rip it out of Kinky? I mean, it must exist somewhere in those huge collections of dumped disks?

Bump.

I've just checked through Kinky, and as it seems that the image is indeed cropped both visually and in the memory.
I have reconstructed as much as I found, but 4-5 chars is still missing from the complete image:

I still think it is a shame that an SIT image as good as this one still is missing from CSDb or located in any collection. Chancer? Motion?

I extracted it a while ago and it's indeed cropped in memory aswell. Is also stored some chars offset, probably to fix something in the VSP routine.

This was posted on FB This morning by SIT. No file linked, though:

"Hi guys. Jog of SubZero. found a disk of my old work and kindly extracted the bitmaps from it. There was a complete Hawkeye image in there. I made this as a practice piece as I was (and still am) a huge fan of Oliver Frey's artwork and wanted to do a copy. It has issues but overall at the time I was quite pleased with it. Anyway here is the full image. Thanks for caring enough to do a hunt for this for me Twoflower !!!!"
