In 2001 FBR was closed as our deal with satan had come to an end! It was the day to pay for our success! Infernal, Ninja, Oahawhool, The Punisher, Death Demon, SCOOT, Microman, FF&S (FunkFlex & Siphiroth), The Last Dragon, and some others, were sent to the firey pits for all of eternity!
Alas! The day of a new birth June 6, 2006, has come! It is a new day, a new era, a new coming!
FBR is reborn for another 15 years to circumvent havoc!
Beware you have been warned!" - FBR 2020

Please someone with mod access add Asterix as 'importer', as he was listed in FBR which is obviously wrong.

Death Demon (Bruce) is the definitive first hand person to give the early FBR history, as well as past that. I think he phrased it best when he put in 'Godfather' mode. Oahawhool, Candyman, and myself were the core members for a stretch, however, in keeping with the honor of FBR, intro's that I wrote or scroll texts written by me during the scene in various demos, intros, releases etc. invariably included Death Demon and Microman, as they were original members who we still talked to.
Candyman broke in on chat with me one night when I as perusing Candyland. I had started to build a reputation at that time, and as FBR was without a coder (a position always filled at FBR ) , Candyman asked if I would consider joining FBR as a coder (they wanted new intros). Of course, he had to clear it with Oahawhool, but he told me it was a lock, and a big kicker was that I always had Allnets, Sprints, and more better than 24 hour plus AT&T's to keep some of our more demanding (crybaby) suppliers happy (Strider left FBR for INC over codes, or that was my recollection; he gave Joe an ultimatum, however only Joe, and possibly The Shark, know the details). Fairlight was Joe's charge.
There is an FBR article written by Ronski for Jazzcat's Recollections (#2 I believe), which I disavow, and there is an article I wrote (Recollections 3) where I discuss some history, but mostly my viewpoint on the scene when I was around.
Anyways, this is my 0.02 as well as a tip of the hat to Bruce.

Time and Magik screen mentions PHOBIAC and WAREHEAD but not sure if they were members. Also regarding the German FBR if you need any info I used to swap with SPY/FBR (Germany).

Group started with Punisher, Infernal, and Ninja. They brought on Microman, Changeling, Death Demon, and finally Invincible Importer (for a brief time). Punisher quit by then. That core group brought FBR into the #1 position in the U.S. for coding and importing. During the summer of 1987, Boba Fette came on board (see Abstract Reality demo) to take over importing for Infernal who was no longer all that active. Oahawhool came on a bit later as well. Boba Fette left for some reason or other and Ninja/Infernal got busted for phreaking. Microman was running things for a brief while but didn't want to. We had a meeting and decided to give the leadership over to Oahawhool. Although, the group didn't really have a leader, per say. We really just figured that whomever was the chief importer was the leader.
Changeling then left to form his own group, The Abyss. He and I (Death Demon) were fierce competitors and good friends. Everything was about coding and we worked together learning from each other on a LOT of things. Always talking back and forth, coming up with new ideas, etc. He was a great guy and made me a better programmer. It's always a sincere honor when I see that I'm compared to the likes of him as a coder on the 64 scene as just about everything I ever coded was to try to make something look better than the last thing he did. We both strived to make the most visually appealing intros/demos we could at the time. We would even come up with really cool never-been-done routines and just drop them on the floor because we couldn't figure ways to get the routine into a demo/intro that would add to the aesthetic aspects of the demo. We were always shooting for quality in our work, even if we didn't always hit the mark quite the way we wanted to.
I was always in awe of Changeling's Hardcore demo when he actually was able to find something cool looking to use FLD with. After that, it wasn't much of a stretch to think of cool ways to use it and just about everybody did. But Jim was the first to actually come up with a cool use for it.
Eventually the entire group changed as most of us original members went into silent "Godfather" mode. I popped back in from time to time to code up a new intro for fun, but was no longer a part of the scene.
Candyman and Oahawhool were running the show. Eventually, they started cracking games too and decided to retire the name FBR and changed the name to Intense. Apparently Oahawhool was living with Candyman at the time. Candyman had married some girl from Venezuella (or some S. American place) and Oahawhool slept with her. So that was the end of Oahawhool's membership in the group. Candyman went on to form The Humble Guys on the PC after the Amiga.
I also did an intro for NEC out of a favor for Grim Reaper who was a local friend outside of the scene.
My best memories involve the people. So many hours on teleconferencing calls screwing around with the funniest people on the planet. I still get a smile when I remember people like Bod/TAL/HTL, Ikari (forget the named of the guys I talked to there), Strider/FLT, Croccodile Chris, Horizon (the group). And stateside, UCF, all the original FBR guys, The Shark/INC, Abyss, etc.
If any of you guys see this, drop me a line on here and let's get in touch sometime! I'd love to hear from Ninja, Infernal, Changeling, Microman, The Last Dragon, Player =1=, JJ The Breaker, The Shark/INC, Phantom Shark/UCF, Riff Raff, Bod and anybody else from back in the day I forgot. I've met up with Riff Raff, El Cid, JJ The Breaker, and The Shark in person since the scene and still keep in touch with Strider/FLT, JJ and The Shark from time to time (although haven't heard from JJ or Strider forever).
