Yeah, leave it like it is, I added it as released "Out of Competition" in Longplay Compo which is the normal way, if the author - you - takes an entry out of comp in favor of better version. | User Comment Submitted by Shine on 9 March 2014
@ sta64 :
CSDb does'nt allow deleting at all :) Keep it this way (new entry). | User Comment Submitted by sta64 on 9 March 2014
Hedning, Shine and TheRyk : Thanks very much for your support and taking the time to listen to the tune again. C64 best computer and scene ever :)
I created a new entry. I am really sorry about the confusion. Should I delete the original prg and sid here? | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 9 March 2014
There _IS_ some progress, far less painful than first version, quite okay even, actually I can listen to it for a while - without going mad. So I'd vote 2 or 3 points more for the reworked version if there was any entry.
-> please mods or uploader or whoever, split release entry in two | User Comment Submitted by sta64 on 9 March 2014
Hi Hermit! Sid Wizard creator himself. Thanks for the great advice and such a beautiful tracker you made. I listened to the tune again on my headphones last night and I saw clearly what you mean and other people. I think I was too much in a hurry to enter the competition :)
I just uploaded a reloaded version. I changed the main rhythm, some instruments and a couple of extra things in the harmony | User Comment Submitted by Shine on 9 March 2014
What hedning said.
The "reloaded" version is better, i see progress! :) | User Comment Submitted by hedning on 9 March 2014
The reloaded version should have its own entry, released today. | User Comment Submitted by Hermit on 8 March 2014
I kinda like the rhythm's losen 1s and the chords, but the solo-melody and especially the solo-sound needs improvement for sure:
-use the vibrato-delay (8-10 frames, whatever), just as you'd do on guitar, so the sounds won't feel out of tuning
-be careful about the loudness of the solo (newbies tend to use sustain value 'F' (volume) everywhere. In my opinion it's a good start to set sustains around A..B by default so you'll have room to enhance dynamics where needed...(btw SID musicians rarely seem to use dynamics, which gives to the classic 'SID' sound)
-the pulsewidth could be thinner, even better it could be sweeped to get some variety in it
-the melody could be more adventurous in my opinion for this style with some dissonances in places... | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 8 March 2014
Sta64 you are right, SID can be anything but you need to shape it the right way. Guitar strum sound always fades by itself, but you have to tell SID that it has to fade.. and how fast. Btw. Orcan / React (great slovak SID musician was using guitar to improvise his compositions before putting them to C64, he is currently inactive and doesn't want to return to SID composing, but that is another story ;-)) | User Comment Submitted by sta64 on 8 March 2014
creaMD, cadaver : Thanks very much for the great advice. We are here to learn. I am going to do a couple of changes in the current version, publish an update version and move on :) I will take this great advice for my next tune. It's my third tune on the SID but I am a musician in real life. The SID is not like the guitar hehehe | User Comment Submitted by cadaver on 8 March 2014
I don't mind the unclear rhythm (losing track of where "1" is) but the pulse lead is somewhat loud and annoying. I liked most the quiet part with the bass only. | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 8 March 2014
p.s.:this is first tune I hear from you. | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 8 March 2014
Sta64, the "improvisation" to the background is a bit unnatural, it's frequently caused by virgins doing music.. you need to get devirginized.. (relaxed) and you will get there... maybe you need to start with different SR parameters to get the melody sound more natura and not like set of rapidly changing tones without any chance to take breath inbetween... you are probably beginner musician but you have quite good sounds and etc. all it needs to make more an more music and you will get there I'm quite sure. | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 8 March 2014
problems with rythm, mostly. not that disharmonic. | User Comment Submitted by sta64 on 8 March 2014
Hi. Thanks for the feedback. To be honest when I saw the first comment I thought that maybe I uploaded a broken version or something. But now I don't know :) Is this so bad? I don't hear the dissonance in my computer. The melody is totally diatonic apart from some tension added in the solo at the end of the tune. | User Comment Submitted by iAN CooG on 8 March 2014 User Comment Submitted by spider-j on 8 March 2014
Nice groove, but unfortunately melody goes from very random to annoying. |
