When i saw it on the big screen, i got a big flash in my brain. What an experience! | User Comment Submitted by v3to on 6 November 2012
about the picture: it is a good one, without a doubt. the face reminds me the villians in star trek ressurrection or the main character in the adventure game asylum. it is not a friendly motive, more spooky, disturbing combined with neutral shapes surrounding. dithering, choice of colors - all well done. only criticism from my side: since i know the whole version in trick and treat it feels like watching a cut from the original, imo more details for the surroundings would have been nice and found one single clash (yay). my vote (in the compo and also here) is 9.
about the discussion: since i get back to the scene there are frequently controversies how pictures should be created. it sometimes looks like being part of religious wars. maybe it is not popular but year is 2012 and there are incredible amount of tools out there which can be used for creativity, but everything but pixelling from scratch might cause drama. better do not ask, do not tell...
btw there is one similar thing with carrion's and pal's graphics: both use a variety of diffent kind of sources. original artwork, photos or renderings. esp the adaption of renderings is really interesting, because most of them are not really mc-grid-friendly and both artist need to know how to make them look good. btw i would not use "wire" in this context, the post processing is so extense that imo it's nearly the same thing like using outlines. "wire" is mostly used in this scene as negative expression just for adding dithering to converts (seems to me).
there is another point which carrion mentioned - that innovation thing. tbh for me innovation is too strong to discribe most approaches. i mean - in most cases ideas are based on inspiration of other people's work... somehow... still i get the point. whoever digged into more advanced functionality of modern pixel tools might wonder, how much is value is it about creating transitions, dithering or similar by hand. take a picture, adjust the color tones or saturation more bit more to c64 standards and try different formats in timanthes. you will be surprised how good the results are. but - it is possible but nobody is forced to use them.
what is better quality?
using your own 24-bit-graphic or paper doodle, use it as layer für creating a clearly defined c64 version, combine them with other elements to a collage...
- or -
using your own 24-bit-graphic or paper doodle, using parts or single objects, combine them with other elements and playing with pixel-techniques and other stuff...
actually i do not want to decide this way. it is just a hobby doing c64 graphics and i definitely prefer thinking about what is inspiring in a picture and not what is wrong with it. btw i voted carrion's pic also 9 points, because it feels fresh (isometric is so damn rare on c64), the scenery is nice and the pic is well executed. imo both pics had good chances for winning the competition. | User Comment Submitted by OMP on 6 November 2012
@CRRN: Yeah, agree. What's the scene without drama. Besides, you'll easier spot THE LUV, if there's some agression as a counter weight. :)
@RedCrab: Hee hee - what you mean "zero value to the outside world" ? :)
One should just enjoy everythin, yes - but with so much time and devotion, it's hard not to take negative feedback personally. Like "I spent so much time on this mother, so all ya'll better like it, you #%*@#$!"
:)
| User Comment Submitted by redcrab on 6 November 2012
Call me noob, but are you grownups seriously fighting and insulting each other over some c64 releases? (..that, like all other related stuff, have absolute zero value to the outside world) Come on! We all know it takes lots of devotion and hours to make a great picture for this machine so why not just enjoy? And, yes it's some kind of competition, of course, but in THIS case you just can't compare multicolor, hires, ifli, nufli or whaterver. It is different sports :)
That's my opinion.
Oh, and the picture: great! I wish I could pixel like that one day. Hugs! | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 5 November 2012
Meanwhile in a harbour on the norwegian cost....
| User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 5 November 2012
CSDb never fails to satisfy my need for good old drama.
PAL, Carrion i think you are both awesome artists.
Dont get your knickers all in a twist guys, please. Before we know it, someone does something melodramatic. Like quitting the scene .. and then makes a surprise comback, just to find out the scene died ages ago and so on and so forth ..
| User Comment Submitted by OMP on 5 November 2012
@oswald: haha, dude that's too funny! ^ ^
@pal: Aye, my friend. 😊 | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 5 November 2012
A mind is like a parachute. It doesnt work if it's not open.
Life is really great, listen to or create music or arts on a canvas or screen maybe, one can have a great time with the best of friends doing something weird as doing art and demos in a big big scale on the c64, one can meet women in life and even nail them too, it is possible if you get yar eyeballs out of the blue screen for some time in your life... one can travel, work or do what ever one want to do... I like to combine all things in my life, sometimes life is really hard as hell, but for the most it is grand, colorfull, super and full of variation, therefor I put love and joy in my pixels on these c64 demos we do, I find a joy in doing ideas and getting them done proper, some see that and some never sees that... it is up to each and everyone...
In my life I am really just amazed that anyone really put the effort they do in these grand productions on the small scale stage we hold, and for me that is the coolest. I would just say: We in offence and prosonix and in flt too (I have got to know), we do this because it is fun, we do not do this because it is a matter of life or death to be this or that... we just create things we like and things we think fit in the whole of our productions... if someone come after we have worked so hard and do not like it, so be it. That is really that... on a personal level... I would rather spend time doing these things and not show anyone what we did, it really do not weight that much what other people feel or say or wants me to do instead of what I did or what I did wrong or how silly I am for having done that or what an arse I am just saying: hey I did that, it is what it is... can not change it now... and will not listen to you now... I am just beyond that in life, I do not want to create what you want me to create... if I do that I can watch tv instead, but guess some fool would come and say... hey do you look at K1 and UFC? what in incredible dump fuck you are... you must watch opera night on the culture channel dude... that is what I do!...
For me it is about just doing something I really really enjoy and doing it together with the absolutely best gang of friends in the whole world is just mind-blowing.
Oswald : The way I read your cartoon it is funny as hell - thanx for that one!
PS: children and drunk people, I have got to learn from life that they do always tell the truth, maybe that is wrong?
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face!

@Lemming
Alliance? I don't think in these categories, maybe You do. I just read and draw conclusions ;) | User Comment Submitted by lemming on 5 November 2012
>I don't get the reaction over
>Carrion's critique. It was
>substantial and in good tone. And
>then PAL reacted like a spoiled teen
>pissed off because not everyone loved
>his work,
Jammer, Carrion's "original reaction" was in fact here Cozy Home
CRRN>Yours was just another wired and
CRRN>Koala-dithered simple image....
which was continued here:
PAL>You are just to sick dude... why PAL>put everyone down and try to raise
PAL>yourself?
Meanwhile the lot of you just keep on throwing comments like "boring as fuck" and "reacted like a spoiled teen" still a week after the whole ordeal.
We get it, you have this brotherly countryman alliance and your king has been violated by not keeping calm at his Important Critique. Move the fuck on.
| User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 4 November 2012
Nice pic, still PAL had slightly better ones from his hand :) Although, the whole composition in demo is really impressive.
I don't get the reaction over Carrion's critique. It was substantial and in good tone. And then PAL reacted like a spoiled teen pissed off because not everyone loved his work, . As I've written above - PAL did better pics than this and Carrion was perfectly entitled to express his disappointment. Suddenly, everyone started tapping PAL on the shoulder, telling Carrion that he is a dick, should stop criticizing :D WTF? Is CSDb pensioners' asylum with 'any harm' filtre? ;] It totally reminds me of American companies, where no critique is allowed because it destroys workers' morale. And then they get fired - because of 'I don't know fucking why'. Pleez! ;) | User Comment Submitted by hedning on 4 November 2012
Leming: Wtf is wrong with faces? It's the most interesting part of a human body to depict. Try to express anger or happiness by depicting a knee.
| User Comment Submitted by OMP on 4 November 2012
@Laming: Yup, we're all entitled to our own opinions. However, the tone and rudeness off your comment, suddenly revealed you as an asshole, Sir.
Have a great day! | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 2 November 2012
it is all ok... I still got the third price on X2012 and it were all super to have created a part with some graphics in it for you all. Some like the part, some other do not... it is all ok... I like it!
| User Comment Submitted by Leming on 2 November 2012
Now me say what I wanted to say while back - to be honest - this one is boring as fuck. Another bloody face. common you guys havent got any better ideas than pixeling faces? I know shit about making graphics but common, half of the pics in the compo are bloody faces. BORRRINGG!
| User Comment Submitted by Hammerfist on 1 November 2012
Because of my own deadline-stress I was unable to really talk to many people at X. I would have loved to discuss techniques with you and other graphicians - learn more about the trade, so to speak.
I think this face is very realistic and a little scary (the guy looks like one of the plastic-surgery aliens from Star Trek) and it is very well done.
I would have preferred some more detail in the graphics that frame the face, as I don't quite know what these are supposed to be. The light part on the right looks like smoke and the two swirls at the top like the ends of a bow. Regardless, I enjoy your work and your style. Thanks! | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 31 October 2012
If carrion can be as lovable as Kim from now on, I am all in!!!! | User Comment Submitted by booker on 31 October 2012
PAL & Carrion: you guys need a fat long spliff and a litre of vodka and I'm sure all can go in a right direction :D | User Comment Submitted by Jazzcat on 31 October 2012
Excellent pixels. The hollow motive stood out for me due to All Hallow's Eve being so close. Thanks PAL! | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 31 October 2012
Found this on internet... Kim is looking at our demo!!!!!!!!!
| User Comment Submitted by lemming on 31 October 2012
Just because you have an opinion about something doesn't mean that other people won't form an opinion about your opinion.

djeezuz dude... What have I done other than using two years on doing some demo for us all to enjoy?
Can you please stop it?
Superstar is your words not anyone elses... Come on, do not be a retard in addition to just beeing stupid. It were started by you over in the Sphinx thread and as I say you will always go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and never stop... we know this all of us in here so no surprise with that.
I found this music video - from the lyrics I can only know it is about you and your relationship to her, the girl we all love - the c64 and people around it and your life maybe!

I should probably stay quiet, but...
I *kind of* know where Carrion is coming from.
This is a very well pixelled picture, the colours are nice and it looks good, but it doesn't really excite or inspire me in the way the entries from Archmage, Louie, Carrion, Duce, Rexbeng and maybe some others do. In my opinion it just lacks something stylistically.
Still, it's currently the second ranked picture here, so obviously most people disagree and I don't want to take anything away from the amazing amount of work Pal has done in the build up to this party, without which some brilliant demo parts wouldn't look quite so slick! | User Comment Submitted by psych on 31 October 2012
@Jailbird - LOL
Just small comment from my side - fab pic!
Kind of PSYCHO face expression :) | User Comment Submitted by Sander on 31 October 2012
Beautiful picture! Nice composition of layers and depth. The colors work well too.
@Carrion, please don't do this to us and yourself. | User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 31 October 2012 User Comment Submitted by PAL on 31 October 2012
I THINK YOU ARE JUST LIKE MY LONG IMAGE... YOU JUST GO ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND NEVER STOP!
goodnight to you dear carrion from me... | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 31 October 2012
That is all right carrion... and as a part of a 34 screen koala I guess you could have done it all the way innovative and to everyones likings... sure... come to x next time and show me... By the way, here is also another not innovative part of the same image...

created for my daughters birthday invitation some years ago in lightwave3d, also were in the halloween compo over at spinquad 3d forum... you can go there to see progress when creating the piece in 3d.
You are just to sick dude... why put everyone down and try to raise yourself? let others do that for you, I am sure you will get it if you deserve it!
I do not matter what you prefer, you are not the creator of these images... and would never have known the other side... you are just making an arse out of yourself and nobody, I mean nobody on here like your way of spreading un-love! Attention whore you! | User Comment Submitted by grasstust on 31 October 2012
ARGH! I hate you, Pål!!!!!!!!!! This was my favourite in the compo. Many are just trying to paint a pretty picture, but this one has expression/soul. So much goodness from you on X2012, respect! | User Comment Submitted by PAL on 30 October 2012 User Comment Submitted by Tim on 30 October 2012

call me a fanboy but I simply love your way of pixeling. my deepest respect for this masterpiece. guess it just took you 5 minutes because you had no time, as you had to pixel 100000000000 screens for your demo :-D | User Comment Submitted by Peacemaker on 29 October 2012
