I can't quite remember how this bug came to be, but it had to do with the fact that i started coding the loader long before emulators became commonplace, and the code to detect a changed disk remained the same until bugs like this surfaced in the wake of lots of multi-side and multi-disk demos. It relied on checking a change in the disk ID encoded in any block's header (which is the same as the directory's header on D64s, but not necessarily so on actual disks). Now, one would expect that this means to have to format all sides with _different_ IDs, but i guess that was another bug (maybe not in the loader itself) causing this.
