@Wile: not wanting to hijack the comments thread.. but this isn't worth spinning off a thread for either.

ECM is just like hi-res char mode .. but you can have 4 different "screen" colours. You only get 64 unique chars and then the top 2 bits of each char value give you the 0-3 index to the screen colour.

So for each char on screen, you can have 2 colours - 0-15 for "on" pixels and one of the 4 screen colours for the "off" pixels.

Very hard to work with to get good results.
