C64.sk Cover Music Compo #1 Release Note

(January 2008)

Time until first loop: 3'20"

JCH v20.g4
New SID - MOS8580
Play LOUD

--------------
Notes:
-----------------------------

Yes, I know, this tune should have been done in a new editor. I simply didn't find the time to get into the new editor yet, so this one's still in JCH v20.g4, sorry. Yes, it's not over 6 minutes long either - don't know what's wrong with me lately :).

Maybe it's because this is a cover of a 3'20" tune called "Flashback - Options1", originally composed by Raphael Gesqua for the game "Flashback: The Quest for Identity" published by Delphine Software in 1992 for the Amiga 500. I played that awesome game to death back in
the day and really liked this tune, often wondering how it would sound using c64 synth sounds.

If you want to compare the cover to the real thing, you can find and download the .mp3 version of the
Amiga original here:

http://www.amigamusic.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewd..

I stayed true to the original for about two minutes, then I did something weird at 2'12" - it works, though - and eventually strayed from Gesqua's composition by adding a different melody at the end. Intentional, of course, the
bass and chords simply force you to go solo at the end :). I'm sure Gesqua would have done the same there, but I think he faced memory or time restrictions.

[Edit: Sincere apologies to Mace[SEC-GMI] if this alteration indeed destroyed the continuity of Audiomonster's original :) ]

Thanks for listening and taking the time to read this note. Fast greets to the Viruz crew and all the other SID composers out there - let's keep them MOS6581 and MOS8580 vibes alive, shall we? :)

Until the next one,

Vincent.
