Beautiful demo with perfect pace in context to the theme. I agree with Dane, some of the graphics could have been worked on further.

I almost turned it off when the first part showed up, thinking OH NOEZ! NOT ANOTHER <INSERT ARBITRARY COUNTRY>ISH 4X4 DEMO! By the way am I the only one who thinks the 4x4 parts don't fit in there? They feel like they are from another century really (and i mean a past one) especially compared the other cutting edge effects. I have only three words for this demo:

Code is spectacular. The music is not my cup of tea but it suits the rather slow pace quite well. The thematic idea appealed to me, though the graphic looks rushed in places and could have used more work. Finally, I was very moved by the note. Thank you.

The water reflection part worked really well.
I absolutely loved this part:

Reminds me of being on a fairground ride. My favourite part from the demo.

The plasma affected by Sid made be have a flash back. Some years ago I mentioned to TMR, the idea of plasma affected by Sid, as part of a music player. He boo-hoo-d the idea, leading me to believe it was impossible on C64.

The whole demo reminded me of the sort of demoís Reflex would create, where code was priority over sound and graphics. Snapshotís audio was interesting, although I found the graphicís rough around the edges for my liking.

The big chunky colourful tunnel at the end was really something.

@Nightlord I didn't say anything about the x-width of the sprites. For me it was clear, that there is a masking layer behind.

Dr. Foerst, a pioneer in making driving simulators developed a special graphics hardware with a very similiar approach. http://weltenschule.de/vgames/Nuerburg/Nuerburgring.html

The so called N8 hardware allowed 8 different x color positions per scanline. It simply filled the scanline to the next x position with the given color.

sorry for the delay, but the note file has finally arrived :) Please use the 3rd download link to get the package with three d64 images, the third of which is the note disk. Hopefully this has enough information on everything, people have been wondering about.

I am really REALLY tired now... Go read the huge note and if you still have further questions, feel free to shout out and we'll try our best to answer them. After all the whole point is to share our inventions and to wait and see what other great coders will do with them :)

@human code machine: you are mostly right about the vectors but if you look at the screen shot in this page, you will quickly notice that some faces have rasterlines way longer than 48 pixels :) To read more about Norvax's innovative SMGF technique refer to the note file.

@spinball: sorry, the proportional text routine in the note file is unable to display guitar tabs :P But I intend to record a video of myself playing Tears on guitar and put on youtube sometime for fun :) you can maybe reverse engineer the tabs from that...

@ Digger There's no need to use hires sprites. All sprites have "hires" positions on the screen and the last sprite on the right is black and has the highest priority. Priority is from left to right. And you don't need to change the sprite pointers at all. The sprite data for all sprites is $FF.

Very nice design, and some extremely good effects like the 50fps vectors or tunnel, also 2nd side music was very fine.
I have a little friendly remark about
the flow, sometimes it's broken by long loading times, maybe it's time to work on/change loader? :)
Overall I think it's for sure one of the nicest demos of last years for me and my coders eye ;)

You mean switching x and sprite pointers for 3 x-extended and y-stretched sprites in line per colour? 3*48px would give 144px, but then the 3rd colour would need to be hires.

Really nice demo, i absolutely love this! Quite a few very original ideas, such as the vertical raycaster, the vector-plus-sprites in the greetings-part etc. The rotating skateboard anim really kicked the demo off! ;-) Loved meeting you guys, hope you had a good trip back to Turkey and looking forward to meeting you again on X! You really put Turkey back on the c64 map, it's been very silent ever since Accuracy quit! ;-D

I must confess that I had barely heard of Glance before this demo, but it sure put them on the map for me!
Great technical stuff (I am really looking forward to that note file) and heavy music. The only thing that might be lacking a bit is the graphical side. Still a solid 9 from me!

The 50fps Vector and the Raycaster seem to be animated, rite? Realtime filled but not calculated, is that correct?

Really great demo. I was expecting a very decent demo as I know you've been working on it for quite some time, but it clearly surpassed my expectations. Even had a theme and the design (mostly) managed to keep at it, something you don't see very often with C-64 demos. My only complaints would be that it felt sluggish at times (too many black/grey/etc. screens) and I didn't like the artwork (gfx/msx) as much as the code. Still really excellent stuff!

My favourite parts are the freedir tunnel at the end and the 3 colored hires vectors in 50fps. Top notch stuff!

Phew. Downside: it includes too many jawdropping things :) It is a really well directed work. Pretty enjoyable to watch.

I really like some of the music and some not so much. But that's my problem.

Regarding the speed of some effects in this demo:

I think this demo is a technical milestone. Previously we were comparing the demos against some classics such as The Last Traktor 3. (I should not be misunderstood here, I am not comparing Snapshot to TLT3.) Now people will compare their demos against this demo.

In other words; this is the demo to beat now.

Codewise a very good demo, tons of cool effects and oh yes, you gotta love that hires vector part. Robo arm is nice too!

On the first side however, the music has a higher pace than the demo. In fact, I find the overall progress a bit slow.
And I see some transitions 'borrowed' from Edge of Disgrace ;-)
