With some slight changes, pretty much the same procedure as last year /o\ uh... _time_ :)
Yeah, it's been a while, sorry to all PETSCII fans who've kept suggesting another plain PETSCII compo for ages.
It's not that I was not motivated to organize it again, but for real life (i.e. death, birth) and to-do-list reasons (aka project jam)
it was not meant to be. Besides, I had expected a much higher figure of entries in the PETSCII compo at X 2016,
another reason for me to delay the standalone competition once more to 2017, a non-X year.
COMPO RUNNING TIME:
=====================
Competition starts on Mon 9th of Oct, 00:00:01 and deadline is on Mon 23rd of Oct 2017, 23:59:59 CEST.
RULES:
=====
ENTRY RESTRICTIONS:
a) Plain PETSCII (= main competition C64 Graphics)
"Plain" in my definition means an executable .PRG file displaying 1000 bytes screen RAM using CBM Character-ROM font and 1000
nibbles color RAM, nothing else, no ECM, no sprites, no interlace effects, no splits, no animation, no scrolling, no open borders,
no hankypanky of any sort.
Background and screen color ($d020/$d021) can be picked by competitors, black is beautiful, though, and in the results scroller,
$d020 will be black, only your $d021 choice will be unchanged.
For the sake of finally ripping all entries for the voting engine, I'd appreciate if you pick default VIC Bank %11.
but if you insist on displaying your image elsewhere, you can count on me being smart enough to find and rip it :)
Converting is not forbidden, however, experience shows _IF_ you convert at all, much own touch is necessary, as you won't score high
with raw conversions. If the troll in you just awoke, please just consider(!) the options WILD PETSCII or out of competition
for releasing total crap like a 1-tile PETSCII-conversion of your tiny wiener instead of polluting the actual compo with it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to your high quality entries, and like a good laugh,
but must reserve the right to kick out single entries in case of crap overload emergency (and only then, no censorship meant).
b) WILD PETSCII (= side competition C64 Wild):
Anthing using the C64 Character ROM (<- only rule here) that violates any of the rules above,
so you can use border effects, sprites, ECM, do an animation of several frames, scrolling... or whatever you like :)
MAX NUMBER OF ENTRIES:
Maximum 2(!) entries per competitor (and per competition, so absolute max is 2 plain and 2 wild entries per person).
This is a modification, last time 3 plain entries were allowed, but since then,
PETSCII scene has evolved drastically, so I expect more competitors but would like to have some limit in terms of total entries
which is also the reason for the rather short running time, sorry.
So if you already upped 2 entries and then up a 3rd one, please either modify CSDb settings yourself to make clear
which entry is out of competition or just tell me via PM or email.
ATTENTION: If you upped 3 or more entries and don't make clear which 2 you would like in/out till the voting begins,
then the newest 2 entries will be automatically in, any older ones will be out.
HOW TO COMPETE:
====================
If you have no idea how to make an executable .PRG file, I recommend you to use tools such as those by by Marq or fieserwolf
(or this new browserbased thing). Once you're done and want to release your PETSCII, either create an entry on CSDb yourself
(please double-check credits, especially if you really want to "lock" the entry) and upload the file or mail me your entry,
address is ryker@[SPAMSUCKS]freenet.de without the obvious no spam tag.
VOTING:
==========
No system is totally flawless or foolproof, but the system we used last time seemed pretty clear and there were no complaints
or none I remember. So CSDb voting will be ignored, it's not forbidden, though, and can do no harm, so if it makes you happy, do it.
Also competitors might like your feedback via CSDb comment.
For the actual voting there will be a voting disk image upped here again, voting system will be self-explaining,
so you can vote via joystick on real hardware or use an emulator such as VICE. Competitors are allowed to vote, too,
but the final calculation will clear average values of self-votes, so it does not matter what you vote for your very _own_ entries.
Voting will be opened a few days after deadline and be open for another week. At least that's the plan right now :)
PRIZES:
Not 100% settled, but probably again "only" eternal fame or shame :)
ANY MORE QUESTIONS?
========================
If there are any questions or you want to compete or vote and need help with whatsoever,
either use the discussion entry of this event on CSDb Forums (NOT by commenting on the event entry itself, please),
which might be helpful as more than one user might have the same question or ask me via PM or mail to ryker@[SPAMSUCKS]freenet.de |
