The Art Project Studios   (APS)

Founded by :
Seytan, Mistadobalina & Roop in March 1993

Group Types :
Demo Group, Game Development Group

Base Country :
Germany

Trivia :
had The Lords and Gosh as subgroups and later these two were dissolved and merged into APS.

The story began in late 1992 when Marc Teufel (Pleinfeld/Nürnberg) and Sven Bastrop (Jever)
build up a group called The Lords . Under "The Lords"-Label two
demos (see "Demos") were done and also the game "Brainstorm" was planned but never finished.
In that time, Marc got to know Hani Hawel (Lehrte/Hannover) who was
leader of the group
Gosh . While having some funny time in swapping lots of disks between
Pleinfeld and Lehrte and
wasting hours by discussing senseless things about the C64 on the phone, Hani and Marc became two big
friends and after six years this friendship is still alive!

In the beginning of 1993 Hani and Marc decided to do a co-demo between "The Lords" and "Gosh" and so we started to work on "Peace - The Demo".
"Gosh" and "The Lords" were working more and more together so it happened on the "Lords/Gosh Hannover Meeting 93", Sven, Hani, Sascha and Marc organized in Hannover,
that we let our old groups die because we wanted to be in ONE group! Marc came up with the name
"The Art Project Studios"
and all loved that new groupname - So in March 1993 APS was officially
founded by Marc Teufel, Hani Hawel and Sascha Schmundt (Sven Bastrop left because he wanted to concentrate
on his "political" career).
1993, in fact, was a year of lazyness because no games, no demo and no tools were produced. Instead we held
"The Pleinfeld Meeting" in July 1993 on wich Hani Hawel, Sascha Schmundt, Peter Reinelt and Marc Teufel
had lots of fun with all that "Who can eat the most pizza competition??" and
"Very Special Tour through Nürnberg -
BURGERKING
pure!" things.

At the end of 1993 Marc got in contact with Matthias Kramm (today everybody knows him as Quiss/Reflex) and
they began to swap disks, too. Finally Matthias joined the Studios and both, Matthias and Marc wrote the
very first APS-Game "Mühle" which was finished, I think in February 1994.
Matthias and Marc met first time on a little meeting in Weissenburg and after coming home from the cinema
Matthias and Marc decided to programme a demo which should be later known as
"Made in Heaven". Matthias had
problems in coding this demo at Marcs Place and suddenly he said "Marc, I will finish it in Munich! I need my
MK 6! Your Final Cartdrigde suxx like hell!" And he did. By the way, our demo "Made in Heaven" won the
GAME ON Democompetition (GAME ON was a german computer magazine).
Marc also contacted Tufan Uysal (Duisburg) who just released 2 games under his old (fake-)Label "Taffan".
Tufan also joined the Studios. PVCF/Reflex from Dresden (no real name, sorry!) contacted Matthias because
he saw his game "Nova" and wanted to ask him if he could compose the soundtracks for his future projects.
Funnily enough, Matthias and me just planned to contact PVCF because we liked his music!

No doubt, in the years 1994 and 1995 APS was a successful computer group. Marc reached at the
"Best-Graphician-Charts" Place 19, Matthias and PVCF were getting more and more successful with
their scenegroup Reflex and Tufan joined the famous demogroup "Smash Design" as 2nd group.

In 2023 Tufan (SoNiC), Matthias (Quiss) and Marc (Seytan) revived the group.
Goal is not to make demos, for this we are in our scene groups.
Goal is to make games and to motivate others to follow this path.
Retro-Coding, Composing and Pixelling - just for the fun and non profit.

We are happy to welcome Andreas (Prince) in APS.
We have all known him for many years, if not decades, from our close friendship with TOM.
We also did a few productions together, which makes it even nicer that he wants to
be involved in the creation of new C64 games.

CSDb (Commodore 64 Scene Database) is a website which goal is to gather as much information and material about the scene around the commodore 64 computer - the worlds most popular home computer throughout time. Here you can find almost anything which was ever made for the commodore 64, and more is being added every day. As this website is scene related, you can mostly find demos, music and graphics made by the people who made the scene (the sceners), but you can also find a lot of the old classic games here. Try out the search box in the top right corner, or check out the CSDb main page for the latest additions.
