Much to my surprise, CONS was more than right. This game has won the Meteoriks award in the interactive category for the year 2014. WOW! :) | User Comment Submitted by CONS on 7 September 2014
This will easily make its way into the top 5 games in 2014 on the C64. Well done! | User Comment Submitted by Karoshier on 7 September 2014 User Comment Submitted by Green on 24 August 2014
my Lightgun, DEFENDER 64 Cheetah Marketing, works fine. | User Comment Submitted by Green on 24 August 2014
@Karoshier, Just in Game (Maze screen). Menue and Calibration works perfect ! | User Comment Submitted by Karoshier on 21 August 2014
@Green: Which game screen are you experiencing the problem at? calibration? title? have you tried with more brightness/contrast or another monitor? how much jitter do you see with no filter while holding the pen still? does the cross move smoothly on a text-free area? please be more specific. :) | User Comment Submitted by Green on 21 August 2014
cant go up with my pen, just lieft and right :/
It's a DELA ELEKTRONIK GMBH pen without button | User Comment Submitted by Karoshier on 12 August 2014
That being said, the button is only used in the main menu and to skip forward in the evaluation screen, so you might want to spare the added work and use CBM or F7 instead, which is just as fun.
I hope this helps. | User Comment Submitted by Karoshier on 12 August 2014
The light pen we used didn't have a button. That's why the button is not there in the schematic. But I should have mentioned the possibility anyway; sorry and thanks for pointing it out. :P
I suggest you use POTY as a trigger input because it's how the Magnum Light Phaser is wired, and the Magnum Light Phaser gun appears to be the one supported by most light pen games (see http://jderogee.tripod.com/projects/lightgun/lightguns.html).
In Magnum Light Phaser configuration, POTY gets connected to +5V when the button is pressed, and left floating when the button is not pressed.
I would also try adding a 1k resistor in series with the button, just to protect the integrated discharge transistor of the POTY input of the SID. You never know...
Although this connection makes totally sense according to both the C64 schematics and the Programmer's Reference Guide, please understand that I cannot verify this on the real hardware because I never had a Magnum Light Phaser gun and couldn't find any on ebay. | User Comment Submitted by TSM on 12 August 2014
I see no button in the schematics. Is it OK to wire one between UP and GND? | User Comment Submitted by TSM on 12 August 2014 User Comment Submitted by Mace on 11 August 2014
Finally there's a way to make proper use of a light pen :-D | User Comment Submitted by Karoshier on 10 August 2014
