Breathless, speechless... ! | User Comment Submitted by Brataccas on 2 April 2015
This is absolutely fantastic work! | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 31 March 2015
Two of the pictures are based on the FM Towns version: The gypsy wagon and the tree by the stream. The tree in all the japanese versions of the game looks nothing like a willow tree, that's why it looks different here. I guess the japanese artists didn't know what a willow tree was.
The renaissance faire pictures in the japanese versions also look nothing like a renaissance faire, with large circus tents, circus clowns, balloons and so on. | User Comment Submitted by Jupp3 on 31 March 2015
Are the intro graphics based on the FM-Towns version? At least the tree picture looks quite a bit similar, but also altered quite a bit.
Anyway, I just heard today there will be yet ANOTHER release, with dungeon graphics based on FM-Towns version, enhanced main character graphics with more colorful sprite underlays etc.
(Well, one could always hope today wasn't 1. 4.... :P) | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 31 March 2015
Magervalp did all the hard work! Making new intro graphics was a lot of fun :) | User Comment Submitted by MaD ][ on 31 March 2015

I scanned the map for this release of Ultima IV, but as the map is 10mb huge, we decided to put it on the side. However, it is now added for you to download. Enjoy. | User Comment Submitted by MagerValp on 30 March 2015
@Jupp3: Yes, just copy over the S?? files to the remastered disk, or use restore in the cartridge save menu to copy them to flash. | User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 30 March 2015
WOW! looks so incredible work. could be possible to slice the pics to a different release for a slideshow? i really want to watch all the lovely screens . super duper fine work ! its more than awesome , its like ...Superman and Supergirl combined together to fight the evil powers in the world! thanks! | User Comment Submitted by Yogibear on 30 March 2015
Great stuff guys! You can now be seen as scene heroes! :)
Would it be a good idea to make a slideshow of all Mermaid's gfx for this? | User Comment Submitted by Jupp3 on 30 March 2015
Looks fantastic!
One question that could be answered "in public" (I guess I'll try that later on):
Is it possible to continue game started with the previous version? No matter how much better this looks, I'll rather continue than start over :-) | User Comment Submitted by MagerValp on 30 March 2015
@fuzzybad: I have sent documentation and source for the loader to Ingo Korb, so he can add support for ULoad M4 in a firmware update. No promises and no timeframe though.
@cadaver: In-game hotkeys for teleportation and spawning a balloon were a godsend, together with unlimited magic to quickly win combat and move in dungeons :) | User Comment Submitted by cadaver on 30 March 2015
Superb intro graphics. Also appreciate the depth of fixing, lifting fixed game bytecode & conversations from other ports. That has to take some serious testing to make sure nothing gets broken, at which point the trainers probably get handy :) | User Comment Submitted by fuzzybad on 30 March 2015
Excellent work - I've never played more than a few minutes of ULtima 4 but this makes me want to play through it. The new graphics are amazing!
That said, I have one suggestion for improvement. Would it be possible for the loader to support SD2IEC devices? | User Comment Submitted by Aki on 30 March 2015
Never played these text based games but the new graphics are awesome! | User Comment Submitted by Ksubi on 30 March 2015
Wonderful! Remastered perfection! (some of Mermaids best work here, I can't think of better in game graphics!) | User Comment Submitted by E$G on 29 March 2015 User Comment Submitted by Medicus on 29 March 2015 User Comment Submitted by ѕiηk on 29 March 2015 User Comment Submitted by Steve on 29 March 2015 User Comment Submitted by MagerValp on 29 March 2015
Count Zero: that's because you don't have a savegame to edit (see Goofs). Start the game and save once first. | User Comment Submitted by Doc Strange on 29 March 2015
This is one of my favourite games ever. Thanks for this great piece, really. Unfortunately I can give only a 10. :) | User Comment Submitted by Shine on 29 March 2015
Mermaid did a brilliant job! 10/10 <3 | User Comment Submitted by Count Zero on 29 March 2015
Nevermind - goof reading explains :) | User Comment Submitted by Count Zero on 29 March 2015
Lovely!
On VICE when running the .crt and entering the savegame editor it asks me to insert a disk into device #239 though :) | User Comment Submitted by MagerValp on 29 March 2015
Download available, enjoy! | User Comment Submitted by taper on 29 March 2015
Ultima never looked so good before. Really eager to play this one today! | User Comment Submitted by celticdesign on 29 March 2015 User Comment Submitted by Perplex on 28 March 2015
Damn, can't you type it out here as DATA statements or something? Or maybe GUBBDATA statements would be more appropriate. Party on! | User Comment Submitted by MagerValp on 28 March 2015
Distributed on floppies at Gubbdata. Only have EDGE here in the Gubbdata bunker so I'll upload when I'm back home. |
