The sync feature is kicking. I once tried to make 6 voice sid tracks using jch and i just started the player in parallel. WHAT'S NEW?
NEW (OLD) FEATURE: defSYNC has made a comback. This is a really old feature that has been disabled for a long time, and that you may not know about. Two C64 computers running defMON can be made to start at the same time, if connected with a standard serial disk drive cable. You can either connect the two C64 computers directly or connect C64 number 1 to a disk drive, and then a second cable from that disk drive to C64 number 2. If you have a drive in betweeen like that, both C64s can load/save from that drive, although not at the same time. CTRL+F1/F3 works like ordinary F1/F3, except that it first tells the C64 to wait until someone presses PLAY on the second C64, and then start playing both at the same time. It remains to be seen if this works fully reliably when used at the same time as the scannerboy sync interface and stereo sid, but some hours of testing last weekend seems to indicate that this old code actually still works well. (We also found that if one of the C64 computers is an Ultimate64, you can connect another C64 straight to it, and both can use the built in “drive” in the Ultimate64.) This sync feature was originally kicked out because it didn't fit in RAM together with some other code, and nobody seemed to use it anyway, but now it is back.
BUG FIX: When SID1 and SID2 were playing from different song positions and follow play mode was selected, the wrong sequences were shown on screen when viewing the sequences of SID2. (It would use the song position from SID1.) This bug is now fixed.
NEW FEATURE: Now you can “nudge” the song that is currently playing, one tick forward or backward. So, if defMON is running alongside other sources of music that runs at the same speed but that are not aligned with each other in time, you can now nudge the defMON tune one tick back or one tick ahead by pressing CTRL+F5/F7 to go back/forth.
NEW FEATURE: Each release of defMON now consists of two different .d64 files. Both of them contain the defMON music editor. One of them also contains a number of demo tunes, kindly shared by Goto80, Ilkke and F7sus4, that other uses can learn from. It is always interesting to see what approach people have to defMON so thanks a lot for sharing! |
