(Trident entering a demo with zero sprites into the Only Sprites Compo was similarly clever)

Yeah indeed, "PETSCII" implies "we can use BASIC to print this on the screen".

Else if we follow this loose definition, what's stopping us from even putting VIC20 and PET characters into the mix? Or the Japanese characters from the japanese C64? Makes no sense at all.

@Raistlin
So you think that labelling a compo ‘PETSCII’ does not automatically mean character graphics are mandatory (as opposed to hires bitmap). I couldn’t disagree more. C’mon man, not only are there multiple bg colors, but this seems to use chars from both upper and lowercase (!?) simultaneously and for no discernible reason at that.

That said, I actually like the logo. If it was not entered in a PETSCII compo I’d agree it’s quite good.

Fantastic logo. I know it’s not “PETSCII” but it goes half way, surely, to having the benefits of it..? Ie. It will compress really well with a fairly small overhead on top of the size of a regular PETSCII.

Anything like this that causes little bits of controversy are great - if the compo rules didn’t rule this out, fair play to the artist! (Trident entering a demo with zero sprites into the Only Sprites Compo was similarly clever)

chatGPZ: yeah, from what I remember, the compo requirements -- which also included ANSI and ASCII entries -- were pretty loose:

"PETSCII: Just the standard Commodore font."

Not that I'm kicking myself now over not ALSO taking advantage of it, or anything... :)

Changed release type to "hires", this is not possible in char mode. Wonder how the organizers could not notice this.

How’s this a PETSCII?! I see it even won #2 in a compo.
