For teh record - are these Barry Leitch's samples from Lotus 2? Or rather ST:XXs he's chosen for game's tracks?

seems that due to a brainfart i simply used a wrong delay for the first row in the sample player - thanks to lasse for explaining what it really is =)

i am not using HR at all though, since that produces tons of ugly clicks at low sustain levels .....

I suppose those two cancel eachother out, yes. Tho hardretarded sid sounds start with 2 frames 'silence'.

there is about one frame delay due to the mixing buffer latency, and another due to buffered sid writes. which in theory should cancel out each other, or so i thought. i guess they actually add up =D

Sounds promising, I'm a sucker for SID sound + samples. I'm sure u'll consider the hardrestart delay next time. Or maybe something else caused the few frames off-beat.

OK just listened on real hardware on both old and new SID. Both sounds erhh... "terribly beautiful" (Ge: "schaurig schön") :) If I as a SID gourmet had only to judge the particular song, well, apart from a few really kewl passages such as the beginning and a certain bridge the lead sounds like a boom box thrown into a swimming pool (greetings to Maniac Mansion). Drums are quite kewl, though. And as you say yourself, quite a lot to explore and optimize, really lookin 4wd to more/own tunes made with this fancy huppyfluppy sampler.

From a coder's perspective I find the idea how to do all this quite inventive and fresh and moreover, I'm somewhat astonished that the result matches the filesize restrictions, considering how much RAM was eaten by older samples/digis stuff. That's why I think as any VICIOUS SID release belongs to a kewl X competition, I think this one belongs in a DOTY. That's why I as a Hitmen fanboy rate it 9.

"It's not that obvious since you moved the arpeggios from the lead channel to a SID channel."
yeah ok, just for the first 4 patterns though (after that they are samples). and i have edited the mod a little bit aswell, to work around some problem with my buggy converter :)

It's not that obvious since you moved the arpeggios from the lead channel to a SID channel. Perhaps we can exchange some ideas later on, when you're finished with your replayer.

doh...the one with the drums and the one with the lead, its not THAT hard to find out =D

edit: peeking at your code now for the first time... i am sorry, i have to steal one or two things there - doing it the way i did has no future if i want to add more stuff =)

I read your scrolltext, but I stumbled over 'the usual related effects'. Which voices of the original module did you use for the digi voices?
User Comment
Submitted by chatGPZ on 3 May 2013
you could have found it out by reading the scroller too, yes =)

For your first attempt at writing an 8 bit mixing routine it's quite ok, but there's still room for improvement. I just took a peek at your mixing routine and only one of the two voices has pitch control and there's no volume control for each voice at all?

I don't know shit about sample-players, so I just trust my ears that this has to be quite good :-)
You got any link to the origano? youtube/mp3 or sth. else that doesn't require an amiga =)
Looking forward to some orginal music done with this technique!

the quality of the sampleplayback sounds pretty good and it might be cycle exact but it is a little off beat and this makes it sound... well, let's say "special". if i compare this entry with the ones from afl or laxity (wich surprisingly have the lowest rating) i think they are more enjoyable and they deserve a higher ranking than this one.

Hmh, though some samples sound quite kewl, atm I am not sure whether to love or hate this music/way of making music, just can rate it "interesting" after listening through the whole scroll on VICE. I will definitely give it a try on real hw & my HiFi on the weekend :)

Doesn't sound better than the original though, but probably technically impressive.
