I have a question...

If I have ready the PAL version of this demo, can I upload it here, or will a new entry be needed, only with [PAL]?

@TheRyk - I knew I was pronouncing it right, just wanted to be sure.

Funny thing you should bring up the PAL fix. I have the exact part already loaded and looking into fixing it for both PAL and NTSC. It should have been done before release. I should have said this release was 80% done?
The other 2 parts shouldn't really require any real fixing, just modding of the music routine.
It should have been fixed when released because AFAIK, the PAL scene is more active than NTSC.
Checking into the fixing :) Thanks for the gentle nagging Ryk ;)

The version of Vice I have is 2.4 (win64 x64 mingw). THAT is the one I code or draw with.
I use 2.4.11 -x86 -r28861 (nightly build) for recording.

"is it pronounced REICH?"
similar, think of pronunciation of "Cdr Ryker" :)

BTT/NTSC->PAL: Just launched it on WinVICE2.4 x64sc.exe C64CPAL: Good news is that only the middle part needs some hacking of the rastersplits. In all the other parts all you need to do is, do disable music speed adjustment if PAL is detected. You find PAL/NTSC detector code everywhere on the web, e.g.
http://codebase64.org/doku.php?id=base:detect_pal_ntsc
Just to add some evidence to my point of it's being no rocket science at all :)

@Domspitze - I haven't had issues with that flicker you see. When I first coded this some years ago, THAT was exactly why I didn't release it. I thought I had it fixed and you are correct about the first parts scroll. I should have "over-read" the text so that the characters appeared smoothly. Thanks for the input :D

@Dr. Doom - Thanks. As I always do, I waited for the last possible second to attempt getting it done. By 5am on the 31st, I had only 2 parts 100%. I was already having issues with music corruption during the packing process. Then it would load in the wrong address. Then it would pack, but would run. It just didn't end and I swear, I was about to bust out the load routines before the last attempt when everything packed together and worked. The next one is the one you want, well, the next BIG demo.

@ Board Rider - Thanks. Not always working on something, but seems that way. My brain cannot do "just" one thing in my old age. Seems 3 things minimum, at the same time is about my speed. hahaha. Thanks for the generous comment :D

@TheRyk - (is it pronounced REICH?). I'm no good at PAL fixing. If I were, it would have been done from the get go. Thanks for the comment :D

@ The Phantom - You're an idiot and have no idea what you are doing. Your slap-happy method of coding sucks.

Nice stuff. I like it! But I have some problems with the demo. I tried different NTSC versions in vice but in the second part it flickers in the raster sometimes. And in the first part the chars of the upper scroller appears abrupt.

"also very nice is Press Space demo like in the old time"
yeah, I second that.

@PAL-Fix: should not be rocket engineering here, alas, needs sb willing to sacrifice some time doing it

Ian, No clue when the last update to HVSC was. My collection shows #63, but to be honest, that is meaningless as I add stuff to it. I never seem to notice small stuff like - or _ , almost seems like they are spaces to me these days.

Dr.J - A pal version is likely not going to happen, unless, of course, you want the task. I'd be happy to give out the sources. As for the color cycling in the credits, I knew I shouldn't have combined 2 effects into 1. The plasma over-powers the bitmap effect, but they both seem to work well together. The first and last part should simply need the NTSC music player removed to play proper on PAL. The 2nd part was originally talked about here: HallowFOE
That part should be a bit harder to PAL fix. The only hardcore routine in that would be the side-borders. If you're up to the task, let me know. I'll give you the sources.

Very nice work i especially like the credits part with very cool color cycling , the gfx is very fine from Shine , i wish you could code more parts. also very nice is Press Space demo like in the old time . a little exception: the first part i would expect for maybe some more nice effects except scrollers but all in all very nice work Eric and Shine . any chance for a fixed Pal version?

This demo will work for NTSC machines. If you watch it on a PAL machine, the music will be slow and part 2 won't show correctly.
I wanted to fix everything for PAL/NTSC, but I honestly don't have the time to fix it. I'm on 53 hours no sleep and looking forward to a good nap, so I too can enjoy watching the ghouls, ghosts and goblins out tonight.

Enjoy... And Happy Helloween :D
